Chicken survived for 18 Months with NO HEAD!
Edited on Mon Mar-28-05 01:15 AM by Quixote1818
Story of Mike the Headless Chicken.

For those of you who think Terri could not possibly be a vegetable because she moves around and seems to look and smile this is an interesting story that shows how amazing the brain is:

http://www.miketheheadlesschicken.org/story.html

The skeptical scientists were eager to answer all the questions regarding Mike's amazing ability to survive with no head. It was determined that ax blade had missed the jugular vein and a clot had prevented Mike from bleeding to death. Although most of his head was in a jar, most of his brain stem and one ear was left on his body. Since most of a chicken's reflex actions are controlled by the brain stem Mike was able to remain quite healthy.

1. Big Deal "Bush Survives Presidency with No Brain" is the bigger story.
The only question is will the country survive?

2. That story was on t.v. and what finally killed
the chicken was when they fed it, it choked on a piece of corn. I guess in order to feed it, they shoved the corn down the neck into the gullet and a piece got caught or something.

25. If I had to choose between Bush and the scare crow
I'd choose the crow. Why? He had more compassion and actually cared for people and was a good friend to Dorothy. Bush only helps himself.

3. Fact check:
1. It is impossible to sever any meaningful percent of the head and "miss the jugular."

2. How did the animal EAT?

10. Chicken ( hawk) Bush has survived without a brain for a longer time.
He also lacks a spine. His inability to swallow a pretzel is legendary.
He stumbles and falls from bicycles and Segway Scooters. He can't speak without a prompter hidden in his back and Karl's voice giving him the words to speak.

He is an amazing creature.

23. a little ditty
Oh, I had a little chicken
and it wouldn't lay an egg
so I poured hot water
up and down it's leg

Well, the little chicken hollered
and the little chicken begged
and the gosh-darned chicken
laid a hard-boiled egg!

Well, I had a little chicken,
And I had a little duck,
So I put them on the windowsill,
To see if they would fall off.

27. Yeah...I'm gonna chalk this one up to being crap.
You're telling me this chicken survived 18 months with no head and apparently no infections or parasites or anything. The website says 2/3rds of the head was cut but the pictures clearly show the entire head and neck missing.

This story is 60 years old so you're never going to get the real truth out of it.

Mike the chicken was from Fruita Colorado where I went to high school. It's a well known story around here, very well documented and is the basis of a yearly festival.

35. Well, do you think they should have starved the Chicken or
kept it alive on the eye dropper? Their are deep ethical questions here and since the Chicken did not leave a living will no one knew if she wanted to live or die. What are your feelings on George flying into Fruita to sign legislation to have Mike turned into Chicken soup and Tom DeLay wanting to fry the Chickens wings and serve them with hot sauce?

I support a Constitutional amendment requiring that all live cartoon sponges be straight. I also support an amendment that all poor black children should have their feeding tubes pulled no matter what. Their should also be an amendment that Bush should become world dictator forever.

39. Mike was a sideshow act
Lloyd made alot of money off of Mike. In the end, Mike's esophagus was clogged and Lloyd couldn't find the eyedropper tube to clear it. Mike choked and died.

Quite an interesting story.
