I will admit it...I like to watch "Cops"
They are in Vegas right now and setting people up for the bust. I think it's hilarious. Considering I had a few run ins with cops when I was a bit younger, you would think I would be one of those "hey you pigs" kind of guy, but I really do respect most of them.
I like watching them bust people..lol.

3. I love COPS too.
I am a fan of the show. Many people argue that it's exploiting poor people and minorities. I don't believe that. It's a very good and informative show. It's a Scared Straight on some level.

I don't like the editing on this Vegas episode.

4. My brother in law (cop) in Cleveland was on there several times.
He had a heart attack about 6 weeks ago at age 53, and died.

5. Oh shit...
Sorry to hear that. I went to school, with one of the cops that was on there from Cleveland. He was on there a while ago. He was the one that busted a woman who ended up having her mother's ashes in the back of her car. He was in a few episodes with his brother also. It was probably when your brother-in-law was on.

7. Sometimes it can be hilarious.
Like when two girls were drunk nearly off their ass, and right in front of a cop car took their clothes off and went skinny-dipping.

Or this guy was drunk and disorderly, his (wife? sister?) tied him up but good with cable wire.

It's not too hard to follow the rules. And I have had my share of fucking with the rules. if you can't play by the rules, get out of the game.

15. I'm sure every woman who gets popped hooking is doing it for the
thrill of fucking with the rules.

And the emotionally or mentally crippled that get busted weekly on national TV are just fucking with the rules as well.

A regular laugh fest.

We are already the most punitive country in the industrialized world and have more people in prison per capita than anyone. It just makes me giddy to watch us throw pot smokers and drunks in prison for ridiculously long periods of time while Ken Lay is still on the street.

19. Are you in La la land?
I have been on the other side of the law. I did stupid things and have done my time. Go ahead and worry about the fuckups that fuck with other people for their own personal gain.
We are one of the least punitive countries by the way. I think your statistics are wrong. Try prostituting in another country, or driving drunk and smashing in to a car full of family members. Try selling drugs in Canada.
I think you are bitter and are just speaking from what you have no idea where your thoughts are coming from.

#
Research Findings No 116
WORLD PRISON POPULATION LIST (second edition)
The World Prison Population List gives details of the number of prisoners held in some 200 independent countries and dependent territories. It shows the differences in the level of imprisonment across the world and makes possible an estimate of the world prison population total.
KEY POINTS
# Some 8.6 million people are held in penal institutions throughout the world, either as pre-trial detainees (remand prisoners) or having been convicted and sentenced. Half of these are in the United States (1.85m), China (1.4m) or Russia (1.05m).

As to drunk driving here (in AL at least), you can do more time here for 3 simple DUI's with no accidents or traffic violations in your LIFETIME (no 7 year period as before) than you do for shooting a man and being charged for manslaughter.

Me, I've been behind bars as well and know exactly what the fuck I'm talking about.

23. That explains it
"Me, I've been behind bars as well and know exactly what the fuck I'm talking about."

You are one of those. I have been behind bars a few times myself, but I took responsibility for what I have done.
Look man, I'm not picking a fight. I know you have your thoughts and opinions on this, but I have mine. At least 9 times out of 10, the people who are getting busted, deserve to get busted. At least here in the United States. Try going to another country and attempt to do some things we do here. It wouldn't fly man.
99% of what they show on cops is some drunken dude either beating his woman, fighting in clubs or just being a pain in the ass. They also bust crack head women who leave their kids alone while they go out to sell themselves so they can score some rocks. I've seen very few prostitutes getting busted and when I do see them, it's because they just got through jacking the john for a bunch of cash.
Stick up for them all you want, but when you get jacked for something, don't whine.

26. Yeah, Like Tommy Chong doing time for selling bongs,
thousands for possession of pot, thousands for failure to pay child support when they had no job.

Sorry, I don't ascribe to the "poor are poor because they want to be" and "everyone in jail is there because they deserve to be" blather.

Sad thing is, about the being behind bars thing... I've stayed out when I had the cash. I went in when I was broke. Traffic violations. I was jailed because I was poor.

It happens a lot. A $500.00 ticket to a man who makes $100K isn't anything. To a minimum wager, it's a fortune.

28. Anarchy would be cool
But not feasible. I was in jail because of a lot of things. And I had money. I will admit that the justice system isn't perfect, but to whine about everyone going to jail is just wrong.
I didn't see Tommy Chong on "Cops". I was just saying I liked the show. I have seen injustice in my lifetime, but I have also seen 70 year old women being beaten for 20 bucks too. If you want to mourn over the punks that beat that woman to death..so be it. I won't do that. There are a lot of fucking punk ass idiots that would put a bullet in your head for 10 bucks so they can score a bit of rock. By all means... fight for their justice. That's your right.

10. I like to watch the show, too
But I do not share your respect for most of the officers I observe on the program. I like to watch it to remind myself of the total lack of respect most officers have for citizens and their civil liberties.

Very few of them protect and serve. Most just take advantage of their police power to the detriment of the people.

20. No..I have to respectfully disagree
Many cops are good people, they just have to deal with a lot of scum. It is no different than being any person that has to deal with the public. People can be a huge pain in the ass, and after time you lose you patience.
Honestly, if you have inside information on cops who are abusing their power, it is up to you to turn them in. If it is something that you just figure is happening, then chances are, you are falling for the bullshit that we are told.

25. One and Two
One: You attempt to excuse police officers for losing their patience because they deal with a lot of scum. Those "scum" happen to be American citizens. And police officers are supposed to be "professionals." That means that their lawful behavior is not contigent upon whether or not their "patience" has run out.

Two: I don't have to turn them in. The whole world has the opportunity to see their uses of excessive force in just about every Cops episode. But I guess you can't understand that because of all the BULLSHIT YOU HAVE SWALLOWED.

31. OK
And those "American citizens" are fucking up another American citizen's lives. In this case, I will hope some day that one of these fine "American citizens" beat you in the head for 5 bucks, just because...they can. Then I would like to see it on film when you tell the cops to take it easy on those fine "American citizens" because you want them to feel good when they get busted. In fact, maybe you can give the cops a few bucks so they can take those fine "American citizens" out for a cup of latte'.
I can see that you have never been a victim of a crime.

11. I'M (sort of) IN ONE OF THE VEGAS EPISODES!
I was in the trailer park from hell visiting my pot dealer. When everyting was concluded, I walked out the door with half a pound of chronic shoved into the crotch of my pants. Cops, lights, sirens, and filmcrews everywhere. I'm in the shot for about two seconds, in the background, looking like a deer in the headlights. It was like something straight out of Dante's Inferno.

Fortunately they weren't there for us, and were instead arresting some tweaker/wife-beater scumbag in the street out front. Ahhh, those sure were good times...

18. I don't watch it much but
some scenes are funny.
I can't help but feel sick and sad with most of it. The fact that it's promoted as entertainment makes it all the worse.
No offense to you at all. I just don't know what to do with all that misery.

27. How about using police dogs?
Instead of getting off of their asses and looking for a suspect (INNOCENT), they send a dog in and the suspect (INNOCENT) gets punished by having his fucking hand ripped apart and his fucking tendons permanently torn.
