Question for Northern Virginia DU'ers
My sister is driving me crazy, are there affordable townhomes for seniors, either in Loundon County, Virginia or near there meaning commuting to DC?, my sister has a townhouse there and while it's a great place, the rapidly expanding real estate taxes are driving her crazy, what are the options there, I know of possibilities here in Baltimore but am not familiar with Loudon County, any help would be appreciated,

Miss Waverly

1. What county does she live in?
Back when my mother lived in Fairfax, she was able to get an exemption of some sort for the real estate taxes based on her income.
She also had emphysema, so I can't recall if medical plays a part in the eligibility.

3. They also gave an exemption for her personal property tax.
It really helped her.

5. I lived in Loudon County for a number of years
I now live a couple of counties away, but I suggest you start by perhaps calling the county offices (which I believe are in Leesburg) and asking them what type of housing is available. They would be able to give you info re: tax incentives for the elderly, etc.

I will say, however, that there are TONS of townhouses available. I don't know what you consider affordable, but in Loudon I am guessing they are running from just under 300K to around 700K, depending upon the normal real estate "stuff" (location, features, etc.)

Loudon County, BTW, just lost an effort to maintain a "slow growth" initiative, so the developers are once again on the prowl.
