Do girls stop growing after they begin their periods. I honestly can't re
remember. The reason I am asking is that my neice is tall for age and very, very self-conscience. She talks and confides in me a lot and was asking me if I thought she would quit growing now, and I did not know what to say.

Unless they are very late age-wise in starting their periods . .

My sis started hers when she was only 11

She was a long ways from full grown!!

2. I'm not sure about all girls but...
I was 5'2" with size 7.5 shoes when I was 12 and 9 years later, I'm still the same

3. Not as rule, but generally speaking, yes
Normally, bones stop growing around the onset of first menstruation. Obviously, there are exceptions and variations due to thyroid activity/various other endocrine activities that may influence development and growth.
If she's really concerned, take her to an endocrinologist (sp?) who can figure out if her hormone system is out of whack.

4. Perhaps you could encourage her to get involved

in things where her height is an asset, such as some sports. That should help her confidence.

Are her parents tall ? If so, then its rather natural that she would be too.

If it's so extreme as to be cause for concern - such as non-proportional limb growth - you might consult an endocrinologist.

5. I grew 4 inches after mine.
I would lay odds that she grows out of the self-conciousness. Being a tall female is great!

6. Yes
Some of you remember that I was very concerned that my youngest would be very small. We met many doctors over the years. ALL told us that once she started menstruation, then she wouldn't grow more. Well, she might grow an inch or so, but basically that was the end of her growth.

She's now 5' 3" so my worries were for naught. :bounce:

But everyone's genetic makeup is different. Depends what ya' mean by tall and how tall were the parents/grandparents involved.

We have tall on both sides of my family; both parents were 5'10 or over; one grandfather 6'6". So I was bound to be tall, as are my sisters. "Shorty" is 5'9".
