14. Me Too
We are getting a refund and will be using it on a major landscaping project. My wife wants to eventually be in the garden walk. Hey, whatever makes her happy is good by me.

6. Filed an extension.
I seem to be missing every form (or close to it) that isn't a W2. (Moving + divorce do that to you.)

I should be getting at least a token refund, though, which I'll have to split with Hedges. (We're doing the joint-filing thing for '04.)

39. same here; my spouse is away and can't sign the forms so I have
to get the extension so he can sign everything, then I will mail it.

I THINK we may do OK refund wise this year; thanks to the little deal that allows us to deduct state sales tax since there is no state income tax in Texas. That is a BIG bonus. Plus my property taxes went up and it put us over the minimum to itemize so all my charitable stuff + whatever I can itemize on the state sales tax thing is extra deduction!

But it won't be filed for another couple of weeks.

7. Did 'em.
I still need to do my Ohio taxes, though, since the form they mailed me was missing a page (grrrrr). I'm stopping at the library today to pick up a whole one, and it'll be pounded out this evening.

FAT refund, too! Woo hoo, whoppin' big ol' car payment!

8. Filing an extension
I still haven't gotten all my tax docs from clients. At the moment, it looks as if we'll be paying -- yet again. *sigh* Being self-employed really sucks at tax time.

20. For the first time
in 17 years, I will NOT be filing a Schedule C. I only had one freelance client left the last few years and it was such a pain in the ass for such a relatively small sum, I bid them adios last winter. :D

22. Did them the week before last.
Getting some money back from both the fed and state...not as much as I would like, of course.

I rationalize income taxes by thinking that what I have paid in goes to friends who work for the federal and state government.

25. Very very close
Getting humongous refund due to relative lack of income last year. Does that make sense?

What definitely doesn't make sense is that I didn't finish this earlier, but I had to do a Schedule C for the first time this year.

Had to send them almost $5,000 but that's because I'm self-employed and hadn't paid quarterlies all year. I simply refuse to do that -- I can spend my money a lot better during the year than the government can, and the penalty was only $147. Worth it to me. We came out at about 8% tax bracket, so I guess I can't complain.

ed ... no state income tax in Alaska, so I don't have that worry.

34. Ours are at the accountant as we speak
and I hope will be done tomorrow.

We'll be paying in (hubby is sole-practitioner attorney) like we do every year. But I'd rather have the $$ all year long than pay quarterlies.

This will be the first year I can remember not filing an extension though. (we actually have enough saved up to pay :bounce:)

as always have to pay the state, and get back from the feds. Get more back from the feds than I paid the state. Funny years ago it was the opposite - but now that W wants to be the "tax cuts" king - the state has to keep finding more and more ways to make up the difference (from all the fed dollars now not flowing back to the state). Of course it is rather insidious - get hit by state taxes more than just on the income tax bill - since W's been in power our state sales tax and gas tax has increased. Pretty sure that I am paying more now - net - than I was pre Ws admin.

Way too much in my opinion. Parents died in "04, was beneficiary of half of Dads IRA. My parents were not rich people and I owe $12,484 (appx. 20%).

Besides this, the Estate owes the State of Indiana $987. There is no cash and the house is not settled. If people think there are no taxes due upon death for the little guy, they are wrong.

There can be ways around things, both before and after death. My dad is in his 80s and of very modest means, but we've already set his assets up in a trust to reduce the penalties and hassles we would face later.

Sorry about the loss of your parents.

43. I always do mine in February.
We have honking amounts taken out extra from every paycheck so we always get a decent refund every year.

Then we use the several K to do household stuff that needs doing.
This year, we're having our eastern backyard fence replaced, and getting our couch recovered.

Chintz upholstery plus couch potato Great Pyrenees with large claws does not make for an exceptional couch surface.
