Common Errors in English - A huge list
Wow. After looking at this list, I'm glad I am only bugged by "irregardless", using "normal" when you mean "average", and about 10 others.

http://www.wsu.edu:8080/~brians/errors/errors.html#errors

While most of these are on target and help clarify meaning and usage, a few remind me of a consumer investigation I saw on local news where the reporter acted shocked that "swiss cheese" is often not made in Swizterland. Eg. "Soupe du Jour of the day" =

Soupe du jour (note the E on the end of soupe) means “soup of the day.” If you’re going to use French to be pretentious on a menu, it’s important to learn the meaning of the words you’re using. Often what is offered is potage, anyway. Keep it simple, keep it in English, and you can’t go wrong.

2. But they forgot "youse"
As in, "What can I get for youse today?"

I think it's a fine thing to try to speak and write correctly. But the compulsive correction of *other* people's errors is a sign of a personality disorder, in my opinion.

Not that I haven't done it once or twice myself...

4. There is a lot of information that I could use at that site.
I am a copy editor and many times I have had to search the Web when I am stumped about grammar usage. That site pretty much has it all.

5. "For all intents and purposes"

I used that phrase on another message board and was smugly "corrected" and told that it should be "for all intensive purposes". When I was backed up by a few other members, s/he went on and on, post after post, trying to "prove" that the incorrect phrase was actually correct.
