I never saw a first run either (missed Ragtime), but seems like almost every Friday night there was either a Cagney or an Astaire movie on the Late Movie Show. Since I couldn't afford to go to many movies - those are the actors I "grew-up" with!

or one of those fluffy shows about hollywood celebrities. He used to be the host on CBS of the sports programming in the afternoon, kind of like Bryant Gumbel used to be on NBC.

Kind of fluffy, but heard he might be a democrat (no confirmation).
