Does anybody like Dave Brubeck?
I like him a lot. What was the controversy over Louis Armstrong doing the song "The Real Ambassador"? I'm lookin' your way progmom, wasn't there some kind of controversy over Satchmo doin' that song?:hi:

5. I have Brubeck's 'Time Out' CD in my car player.
I listen to that all the time -- I agree, 'Take Five', 'Blue Rondo' and 'Strange Meadowlark' are some of the best ever recorded.

7. I consider him a national treasure.
He's had a long, prolific career in music, always cheerfully put up with being white in a black man's art, wrote some wonderful tunes ("In Your Own Sweet Way" is one of my favorites), worked in liturgical as well as secular areas, and he's still swinging in his eighties!

8. Met him once
when he and his group came to do a concert with our symphony a few years ago. We had a blast learning the music. He and his group were so kind and fun to work with.

9. My piano teacher taught me Brubeck arrangements
from "Jazz Impressions of Eurasia", circa 1961 or so. I didn't like classical, at the time. It was great stuff.

11. Dave's great no doubt, but what about
Paul Desmond. His work is too often over looked. There would have been no take five without him.
