Weird. Local teenager kills repuke parents, then attends the prom. WTF?
This is local story developing. Parents were dead for a couple of weeks before the gig was up for the kid.

Wealthy republican parents, the kid in expensive private school.

Weird ass story.

-------------

Police say Adam Sapikowski confessed Saturday to killing his own parents, and it appears he went about his normal life after the shootings. Investigators tell Eyewitness News that the 16-year-old went to class at Durham Academy at least once after the murders. They also confirm that Sapikowski went to the school prom on April 30.

Investigators say the teenager shot and killed his parents, James and Alison Sapikowski. Their bodies were found early Saturday morning in a ground-floor bedroom in their Chapel Hill house.

Also, the kid shot them with a single-shot shotgun--he had to reload each time he shot them. :shudder:

2. No, but if you Google their name, you'll see they are big time
contributors to the Republican Party and George Bush.

Dad was apparently Mr. Macho, from all accounts. Has one son in the military and this one was apparently headed to military college.

3. And how do we know they are Republican?
Chapel Hill is actually a very Democratic area. Let's not jump to conclusions about anything in this case. Maybe the kid is just a spoiled brat; maybe the parents were horrendously abusive; maybe it was self-defense. In any case, I'm going to reserve judgement.

4. I didn't "jump to conclusions" thank you. I googled their names
and they contributed big bucks to the Republicans, okay?

Since I'm here locally, I'm familiar with the fact that Chapel Hill is a very Democratic area, though.

7. I googled them too and on NewsMeat found out the donated over 7,000
dollars. Not exactly a giant sum. Though in the end it doesn't matter the kids of Dems, Republicans, Communists, Socialists, Greens, Libertarians, etc can all be murderers. So they are Republicans. So what? Does that make the crime less heinous now because they are evil Republicans? Does it mean that because the were Republicans their kids are more likely to murder? That fact means nothing.

10. No one claimed the crime was less heinous.
You said that, not I. I didn't even imply such.

We often point out such things here at DU as incidentals. Surely you don't deny that?

12. Sorry
I went overboard. I apologize. Its was a knee jerk reaction to some of the threads that I have seen here about kids getting killed and people state that the parents are fundies. Even though you may look through a thousand articles and find not one mention of their religous beliefs or lack there of. I just know through my aunt (a Chicago social worker) that children and teens murder and are murdered for a myriad of reasons.

13. No problem.
In this case, I wonder if this kid was really wanting military college and all that. The father is said to be very pro-Bush, pro-military, pro-Iraq War.

I don't know what happened. Nobody knows yet. The kid snapped obviously. But the parents didn't deserve to be gunned down in their own home.

It's a tragedy but very peculiar.

14. One of the articles had a link to some other news articles
about the case and on one of them it mentioned that he had an older sister away at school. That must be freaking her out wondering if she had been at home, if he would have killed her too. He had to have snapped to be that cold blooded. Because he had to reload four times. Which means he would have probably shot his father first then shot his mother who may have been awake by the time he reloaded.

15. The father had 2 older sons by a previous marriage
and one of those sons is in Iraq or stationed somewhere in the military and had to be called here to identify the bodies.

I guess the daughter couldn't handle doing it or something.

Terrible.

16. I could see her not being able to do it
I mean they were shot five times and decomposing for two weeks. It would take a pretty strong person to be able to do that. Add in the fact that your brother is the murderer. I would bet she might be under a doctors care right now.

6. Rumor is he had a big "after the prom party" at his house
while the dead parents' bodies were hidden away in a locked room in the house.

Now the kids who attended the party are all freaked.

can you imagine these kids finding out all this after the fact? Jeez.

19. I cannot understand
how he could throw a party after he did that. It kind of seems like a sociopath type of thing to do. I hope that the other siblings get some type of therapy. In a sense, they lost the parents as well as the brother. Really a bizarre tragedy!

21. Sociopaths are good at compartmentalizing
It's like having a hard drive with multiple partitions, they just lock the mental files regarding "murdering parents" completely away from the "prom and party and continue on with life" files.

22. Yeah and it seems he didn't
have too hard of a time doing that. Partying at his house while his parents were hidden somewhere really shows arrogance or stupidity. I wonder what kind of relationship he had with his parents and what finally triggered the killings.
