My son, age 9, tells his Freeper friend to "do the research!"
My eldest son has a friend from a stereotypically freepy home. Today Riley was telling me about an argument with this friend. Apparently the kid was criticizing Riley's vegetarian sandwich, saying, "There can't be enough protein in that!" and so forth. Riley said, "So I told him, my diet is just as healthy as yours. Do the research for yourself and you'll see!"

We need an emoticon for beaming with pride...

1. Hey I have a vegematarian child too!
She got flak from her grandmother (husband's mother) for it. Said her growth would be stunted. WHATEVER.

Good for your son.

Actually a lot of Americans get way more protein than their body has a need for. Since we became veg, I've been watching it pretty closely and we still get plenty. Protein's in more than meat!

6. If you are drinking milk and eating eggs, you'll be fine
Veganism, however, is unhealthy.

Eggs are a complete protein, however if you cut out ALL animal products youd be hard pressed to find one.

17. The "complete protein" theory
is based on research in rats and is largely discredited. It was popularized in the book Diet for a Small Planet but the author downplayed the importance of protein combining based on the egg as the standard for complete protein in later editions.

As for the health of veganism, other than a neck problem that runs in the family and a few pounds I ought to shed I'm perfectly healthy. LeftyKid had been vegan most of his life and he's tall for his age, strong, and smart as a kid could be.

18. "Complete protein" isn't that great for rats either
Rats gain weight quicker on a "complete protein" egg-based diet but they die younger. :-( I've had excellent luck with rats on vegan diets; I had some of the biggest, longest-lived non-show rats in town. (All my rattie babies were rescued from a fate as snake food.)

7. I went veg two years before Ry was born
The funny thing is, the freep kid eats a *terrible* diet and is kind of unhealthy, and shorter than Ry--and when you consider that Riley's the product of a 4'10" mom and a 5'10" dad, that's sayin' something...

10. Yeah, but when he rebels against you at age 16
will he become as Saffron was to Edwina?

A nice skinhead death metal band or something...

Oh I hope not.. Good luck.

11. Well, he's ineligible for hate groups
So probably the worst he'd do is become a stockbroker or a CEO or something...

He has wanted to work for NASA since he was little-bitty. I'm sure he'll end up being a scientist of some kind!

But I'm 32, and have 2 kids from my previous marriage.

Xen is three years younger than me. I am a cradle-robbin' dirty ol' woman, I guess!

24. Typical freeper
Spouting off at the mouth when s/he has absolutely no concept of what s/he is talking about. Always preaching, criticizing and trying to dictate without having any knowledge base from which to do so.

:eyes:

Hooray for your well informed kid who knows how to put these jagoffs in their place!
