I have a few things...

I am grateful for the witty banter on DU.
I am grateful for my strong and supportive family.
I am grateful for the power of music to lift my spirits.
I am grateful for the DUers who have become real friends (you know who you are!!)
I am grateful for the sunshine.

I am grateful for freshly picked strawberries.

19. Yeah,
sometimes I don't feel so bad about being in this asshole business.

And this reminds me of that anecdote about the older Judy Garland, breathless with excitement, calling her former rival Deanna Durbin in the middle of the night to gloat about her smashing comeback successes in London and Paris.

To which Deanna Durbin replied, "Are you still in that asshole business?"

Good morning/afternoon, progmom. Have a swell day.

14. I am grateful for . . .
-- A wonderful Swiss-German veterinarian who wasn't pissed when I called him at home yesterday to tell him that my beloved cat was passing blood in his urine.

-- A life-partner who doesn't think I'm a nut for loving our cat so deeply.

-- The fact that I'm an artist who can make a living with me work. (I'm grateful for this, but feel guilty about it, too.)

-- Kindred spirits. Like minds. (That's you, for the most part, DU.)

56. Thanks for asking, progmom.
Ginger will be OK. He has some magnesium/phospherous crystalization blockage in his urethra but, fortunately, I was able to reach this wonderful veterinary doctor at home Sunday morning, and started Ginger on antibiotics for the irritation before the problem got worse. I also learned, via telephone, how to correctly palpate my cat's abdomen to find an enlarged bladder, which Ginger has, but we still were in the "safe" zone. Today, he needed only a shot of antibiotic, to be followed by a two-week course; and a new, low-acid (low ash) dry food. He apparently has a metabolic problem which he'll always have, but we can control the problem without affecting his quality of life, and that's the important thing.

I realize a lot of people think it's nutty to love a cat so much, but we are childless by choice, and Ginger's my boy.

Word to all my cat-loving DU friends: If your cat ever acts funky, like switching his tail and throwing his ears back and searching in 50 different places for a place to pee, yet producing little or no urine, get your cat to a doctor PDQ. It takes less than 48 hours for kidney failure to set in if your cat isn't passing any urine at all. It's better to be safe than mourning.

36. A few things:
My family. People who are loving, supportive, caring. I have the best family in the world.

My friends. The best

The DU'ers who have become friends. I am so, so grateful to DU simply for the opportunity to meet such lovely, warm, smart, funny truly decent people. They know who they are....I've met most of them in person and I want to meet the rest in person VERY soon, hint, hint. :-). Plus, I have the special honor of marrying two of them in a few months. And it IS a honor.

My health. I'm grateful for my good health.

And, last but not least...I'm more grateful for the man in my life, Doug, than words can possibly say. I honestly thought that I'd never know real love...romance. That special someone who will be with me on the voyage of life. But then Doug came along...and my dreams became reality. Doug has the key to my heart....and I couldn't be happier about that. SHMILY, my man.

94. it's a good skill! that's the only thing that freaks me out about having
guests, when they sort of depend on you 24/7. i'm like dude, go explore a little. my cousin is like that. i love him so much, but he doesn't take a dump without letting you know he's leaving the room! LOL. but the upside is, sometimes it makes you do the fun touristy stuff you forget about. i'm a little curmudgeoney, but i'm not that bad. i guess i just need periodic breaks. i had 5 brothers and sisters. it makes you appreciate living alone, i tell you that.

83. woh
Had wanted to post on this earlier but had to go to my son's class day ceremonies.

It is believed by many spiritualists that prayers of gratitude rather than those of need are the most powerful of all.

I'm humbly astounded and exceedingly grateful that my son just received three academic achievement awards at said ceremonies.

He also wrote a poem that was chosen out of 34 entries to be read at the ceremonies. I thought it truly sucked and roasted hiim about it last night. I joked that I wouldn't drive him to school unless he rewrote it. He refused. Of course I took him to school anyway. He got the biggest laugh of the afternoon when he read it. I will be dining tonight on roast crow and already apologized to him in front of his friends for my apparent undue criticism. I just knew he could do far better.

Am grateful also for friends, family, my gardens, and the honor and opportunity to work with high school graduates till 3 AM tomorrow, even though it'll require some serious recovery time.

Am grateful that the truth will eventually be exposed over time.

I'm grateful for this thread and for progmom for starting it.

I'm grateful because my house-mate's mother will be returning to her home from her short stay in the nursing home so her parrot, Paulie will be going home soon too

I'm grateful for the extra help I'll have finding all of the corners in my house for the next few months ... renovations over the past few years have left everything in a mixed up mess

I am so very grateful that everyone I know is acceptably healthy with no major problems at this time

I'm grateful for the friends I'm making here at DU

I suppose the thing that I'm most grateful for is my returning eyesight because my face is finally returning to normal after being partially paralyzed since 12/26/01

I am grateful for my boyfriend, who is, truly, a good man.

I am grateful that his family accepts me - and my fear of flying. :)

I am grateful for my Mom, and all she does for me.

I am grateful for my pets and their innocence and unconditional love, without whom I would definitively go crazy.

I am grateful for my Mom-Mom, although she is gone now, for all she has taught me.

I am grateful to be healthy.

I am grateful to be happy with who I am (something it took a long time to accept).

I am grateful to be living at this time in the United States, where I am relatively safe and can be who I am and write this very message. I've truly hit the lottery of life by being born in this country at this time.

I am grateful for our soldiers fighting in harm's way, for so bravely doing their duty, even if I disagree with the reason they are there.

Most of all, I am so grateful for every person and pet in my life who I love and loves me. The value of my material goods are NOTHING compared to the value of my horses, kitties, bunnies, Denny, and my Mommy. I love all of them so very, very deeply :)
