Thank god my computer didn't blow up as I attempted to do a
BIOS update!!! Whew! Of course, it had to be made really difficult because the "launcher" for the file wants to make a bootable diskette...and I don't have a 3" floppy anymore. So, Toshiba tells you to make a diskette when the computer doesn't have one!

So, after a couple of calls to Toshiba, it turns out they don't do support on the CD-Rom software stuff....I'm not sure the Windows Media Player makes images of ISO files, so after exploring Toshiba's instructions I find a nugget that leads me to a FREE ISO recorder..AH, with bated breath, I download that, then click on the file, and it seems to work! A copy of the ISO file that is bootable!!!

Then the nailbiting....shut it all down, restart and hold down "C"---for how the hell long, I wonder?????? I have a dark screen in front of me and don't know what to do....well, I release the C after about 30 seconds and then.........up comes the BIO screen, it runs through.....it goes dark...and I figure I turn it off.

I rummage around until I remember that I can find the BIOS on one of the Toshiba dingdongs on my desktop....and BEHOLD!!! The new BIOS version is there!!

YAY, me!!!!!!!

In case anybody needs a recorder for ISO files, this is the program I used:

ISO Recorder Power Towy

1. bios upgrades can aways be a little unnerving..
I always make sure I'm plugged into a UPS, just in case of a power outage. Of course, you needn't worry about that, since you were upgrading a laptop!
