Elvis Costello is GOD! Amazing show !
See it if you can. He was astounding! So versatile! And Steve Nieve can play anything! Including the theremin.

Elvis played the blues, the country (with Emmy Lou Harris), the punk hits, the story songs, the new album! I had no idea he was such as great blues guitarist, either. Infuckingcredible!

WOW! I have to calm down now! But miss this show at your peril if it comes to town!

2. hey kiddo!
I am so stoked, it was an amazing show. (Can't you tell?!) :)

But I had no idea he could play the blues ( or the guitar leads so well) like that! There was some serious blues guitar being played tonight. What a showman. I could almost die happily after seeing that.

I had never seen him play live, despite having pretty much every CD/album he has ever made.

10. cool
what never fails to amaze me is his incredible versatility... all the genres that he masters, his great relationships with other musicians, and his unflagging ability to continue to write hundreds of great songs in all the different idioms. Plus be a charming Letterman host, funny as hell, sexy, and married to a series of intriguing women!

4. I saw his first US tour...
...then saw him again a couple years later. He was amazing way back then. I'd love to see him now. Wonder if he'll get through Missoula.

"My Aim Is True" was the best debut album in rock history.

11. I can still picture him on Sat. Night Live that first time in the 70s
he looked so odd with those big black glasses and changing songs! I guess it was clear even back then he would be a force to be reckoned with. :)

16. aging a bit
but there were quite a few younger folks, 20s and younger. That made me feel good! I also saw an Xer or Yer with a Gun Club t-shirt. That was a surprise!

9. Nice!
Glad you got to go....too bad Bruce Thomas no longer strokes the thunderbroom for Mr. McManus; he was Elvis's perfect bassist.

13. didn't catch the name of the bass player
he had a great pedal steel, mandolin and guitarist as well, a country player. Excellent. I'm guessing Thomas was the original bass player?

I was too busy drooling over Steve Nieve's prowess to notice the bass much. But the drummer was also very versatile.

14. I'm sure it was Davey Faragher, from Cracker.
He's the dude EC's been using on most of his material recently. And he's a slouch compared to Bruce Thomas.

SouthoftheBorderPaul (An EC obsessive) once told me that he had a theory that Steve Nieve was in love with Elvis. He said, from watching them play live, and from the videos he'd seen, that Nieve had been suffering from an unrequited desire for the big man out front.

I think Paul was drunk at the time.

15. I think that Nieve is mostly obsessed with his keyboards
but that is a very interesting observation.

guy from Cracker, eh. Interesting.
