Displacement is when you get angry at someone who is a 'safer target' -

If you get angry at your partner then you might have to face that you can't trust them or that you have to end the relationship. Getting angry at the other person is (usually) easy.

Other examples:

If your boss yells at you and you get angry at your partner, kids, dog. It isn't safe to get angry at the 'boss' you might say something that gets you fired.

After a hard day at school teenaged girls tend to take their anger out on their mom (she is safe target - she isn't going to reject you).

Are you worried about going away? I wasn't because I went away for high school, and summer camp, for years, before that. But the first time can be kind of a shock to the system, until you get settled and into a routine. And make some friends. And how are your parents about it? Mine couldn't have cared less, since they were used to me being away, but there are some who can make it harder, especially if they're more anxious about you leaving than you are.:shrug::hug:

52. Not too worried about going away

My mom has been really bummed out lately about it, but my dad doesn't really show either way how he feels about it.

I have one of my roommates, we met online over the nyu message boards, and we got put into a triple in Rubin Hall, so hopefully we'll find out who the 3rd person is soon. The classes I'm taking are beginning Italian, Film Aesthetics, a freshman seminar, & a freshman writing seminar (the last two are required). The nice thing about my classes is that I'm in a small college of NYU so the required classes aren't the big 200 student mass that some of the classes are for kids in other colleges.

And that's totally cool that you've already met one of your roommates. Is she a liberal? LOL! And your classes sound awesome. But no political science? You'd ace that one! And it's great that your classes are small. I had a few large seminar type classes, but my school wasn't that big, so most classes were small, as well. I had one with only five of us in it! Small is good because you'll get to know both your classmates and the teachers. But I'm sure that you'll make a positive impression wherever you go!:D

Hah, my roommate is liberal. We're both in the individualized study college at NYU (Gallatin). No political science, it was something I was contemplating but decided against it. I really want to do something with journalism and photography, like documentary work... so I figure I'll be taking mostly writing, photo/film/media, history & politics, and language classes.
