1. I have been swimming and boating all of my life.......

son of a gun...why don't you put "WEAR A LIFE JACKET" on your list? Perhaps you are like my Brave Friends who are young parents, "oh, my kids aren't going to wear a life jacket in the surf...it interferes with their enjoyment of swimming!" Ha, so does drowning! Many boaters drown every year because it is not cool to wear a life jacket, many kids have drowned at our Beaches on Lake Erie, again if they had been wearing a life jacket they would still be here. My children have always worn them in the lake or at the ocean, try it, it is a lot of fun and could save your life.
