They offer unbelievable benefits to their employees, as does Costco. I realize that there are people here who don't care for Starbucks; that's fine. I'll keep patronizing them because I know that they are paying a good wage to their employees, giving outstanding benefits, and trying to be responsible corporate citizens by seeking out "free trade" coffee and the like.

I really do have a friend who works there strictly for the benefits. He brings home about $85 a week in pay, but has no benefits at his other "job" teaching guitar.

I'm so glad that your friend makes a bit of money and is covered by the health insurance, etcetera. One thing's for sure, it would be so much better if there was a universal plan for everyone, wouldn't it? :cry:

he and I are music partners, playing frequently as a duo

we've had to curtail our performance schedule somewhat so he can work the early shift at Starbucks that accommodates his teaching schedule. It's a balancing act for him.

But my town doesn't have a Starbucks! (For which I am usually very glad. We have great independent coffee shops.)

No Costco either.

This is New York state, and I think companies with good benefits are reluctant to come here; insurance premiums are through the fricking roof.

I just read an article yesterday comparing there benefits to Wal-mart...basically calling Walmart out on there uber-cheap ways. Says that Starbucks had a business model they can follow, give good benefits and still grow and make a profit.
