When someone edits a post,
do you prefer them to tell you why?

1. I edit every other post and I rarely tell people why!
Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 02:39 PM by JimmyJazz
It's usually typos - I am a horrible proof reader.

on edit: :P

3. Me too.
I don't hardly ever proofread until I have already posted!

5. Uh, I am waiting for an explanation as to why you edited.
What did you say? You took something out so it wouldn't be deleted, didn't you?

4. I don't really care...
but when I write a post and neglect to check my spelling or make a wise-ass comment without thinking about whom it might offend, I guess I tend to want to explain my own edit. :hi:

8. I don't do it myself
because most of the edit comments would run along the lines of "On edit: I removed 'Dear pus-filled dickweed' because calling you a 'pus-filled dickweed' would be against DU rules. No matter how accurate the description is."

9. yes.
I've encountered a few assholes who post something inflammatory or nasty, then go back and edit it after they get flamed back. I hate that passive-aggressive shit.

13. I just think it's courtesy.
Like saying "excuse me" when you have to walk in front of someone.

*note: I no longer call it "Common Courtesy" since it seems it is no longer common.

22. Well put
especially the part about 'common'.

If I make a slight typo (which happens very frequently), then every time I see it, it leaps out of the page and I can barely see any other writing - it practically shouts at me - so I have to edit, but always put a short note as to what has been done (usually "Edit for typo").

14. Usually no.
I never understood why people feel the need to explain their edits.

It's usually just typos for me too, and I usually assume the same for others.

18. Yes.
That way I'll be able to put the replies in context. If it's an edit for a typo, I'll know the replies relate to the post as is. If there's been a big change of content, I'll know some of the replies may relate to a post I haven't actually seen.

19. I only mention it when it's either 1) funnier or 2) adding/changing info.
Since an edit doesn't "kick" a thread if I have additional comments
I usually start another post.

That kicks the thread and notifies the OP or poster there's
something new.

Edits are usually lost.

23. I guess I do it because
I am usually fixing spelling or useage mistakes and I don't want people to think I am changing what I said.

Also, I am new to chat room community activity and it looked like what other people were doing to be polite.
