Poll question: Cyclist and bike commuters - Do you wear a helmet?
I'm curious. I have always worn a helmet as does everyone that I know. I have been hit while riding, and that has definitely reconfirmed the necessity. I've noticed plenty of riders around here (DC and 'burbs) riding in crazy traffic without helmets. Yikes.

So I'm kind of curious. Who does, who doesn't and why.

1. When I am on my road bike, then yes
though not for a few months as long as I have my road bike on its trainer. There is no need for it when you go nowhere inside.

4. Not in Illinois they don't for Motored ones
But spouse and I always wear helmets. I've seen too many wipeouts and the helmets saved them.

6. Always
I had a close call without one and learned my lesson. Besides, I demand 100% helmet use from my son, how can I reasonable expect ath if I don't model good habits?

9. Most of the time
Not if I'm doing an evening ride with my wife on the local paths. We go slow enough then that I'm not concerned.
Back in the 70s I commuted 9 miles to school on major roads and never wore a helmet. Of course those leather strap things weren't much good anyway.
