What if someone got your kid the book "Walter the Farting Dog"?
Edited on Thu Dec-15-05 03:52 PM by Patiod
My friend's little 6-year-old Nate just got a new puppy, and got a puppy-training book out of the library.

I KNOW Nate would love "Walter the Farting Dog" (he's a boy, after all), but I'm wondering my friend would think. My friend is a fairly relaxed older mom, but I can't read whether or not she would find it funny or just tacky.

Thoughts from parents?

/edit: forgot to mention, it's a picture book about a goofy old dog

2. My mom got it for my 8 year old
He likes it, even if it is a little young for him, but I'm the mom that got him "Everyone Poops"

7. How old are they?
I found one of those "History of the World" things at B&N for my 11-yo grandson's birthday. It's the size of a large coffee table book, was about $10 - has a fold-out timeline chart thing (literally about 15 feet long!) that shows the history of civilization back to the Pharaohs, with comparisons of what was going on in the world at various times thru the Middle Ages, etc. He absolutely loves it, has spent many hours poring over it. But a girl might not be as absorbed in it, and of course the kid would have to be in the right age group.

3. Got if for my 5 year old son.
We have three dogs at home and know he would get a kick out of it.

5. It's a pretty poor book.
The whole gimmick is the title. Pictures are weak too.

6. Good to know
Went with a puppy training book geared to younger kids.

I noticed that his current training method included telling his friends "if the dog does something wrong, just hit him", so I thought maybe some reinforcement of "don't hit the dog" is called for.

10. I agree.
There's a lot more to dogs than farting.

9. It is a great book for that age kid but I would clear it with the Mom
first. Actually I am of the opinion that it is always a good idea to ask parents of minor children about particular gifts - if for no other reason than that they might already have the gift or they might be thinking of getting it themselves. Gift giving to young children can be a touchy issue for some patents as it is easy for motives to be misinterpreted (are you trying to "buy" the child's affection? - obviously more of a problem with non-custodial parents and with grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. - but it can be a problem with close friends as well) In fact in some cultures it is a serious faux pas to give a gift to a young child directly - the gift should be given to the parent who will then give it to the child.
