Scientists Figure Out Why Mona Lisa Smiles
The mysterious half-smile that has intrigued viewers of the Mona Lisa for centuries isn't really that difficult to interpret, Dutch researchers said Thursday...

1. 83% happy?
I thought it'd be at least 86%.

Maybe it was because Leo couldn't paint without moving his lips and
she was thinking, "Ha! SOME GENIUS!"

2. Wasn't there a song about her smile, once?
I'll have to look it up sometime.

4. Yep
Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa, men have named you
You’re so like the lady with the mystic smile
Is it only ’cos you’re lonely they have blamed you
For that Mona Lisa strangeness in your smile

Do you smile to tempt a lover, Mona Lisa
Or is this your way to hide a broken heart
Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep
They just lie there
And they die there
Are you warm, are you real, Mona Lisa
Or just a cold and lonely, lovely work of art

3. She always looked high to me...
droopy eyes, 1000-yard stare, half-assed smile, weird scenes inside the goldmine behind her.

5. Does anyone here really find her smile "enigmatic"?
I never understood that.

I mean, she's smiling. Whatever. No one ever ruminates on the smiles of other artistic subjects.

My hunch? Leo had a great PR guy.

7. Not too many people know this, but...

...her twin sister, Moanin' Lisa, is 100% happy.

10. So I gather

8. She's smiling because...
...she knows that, five hundred years down the line, millions upon millions of gullible people will be scrutinizing every brushstroke of the painting in the hopes of finding out "the truth" about Jesus, Mary Magdalene, the French royal bloodline, and the biggest piece of tinfoil-hat-bait this side of the Tristero System.

9. Actually I saw once where they put the image in a mirror and looked
"normal". It is known that DaVinci had Dyslexia.
