I've got the "Uggghs."
Do you ever get the "uggghs" when you visit DU? I've logged in maybe 4 times since Christmas, and everytime I've logged in, I look at the threads in GD and I just think, "Uggh."

It's not that there's anything wrong with the threads at all--it's just that the same old topics are being debated by the same people everytime I log in--in GD, where I spend a great deal of my DU posting time. Know what I mean?

When I get the "uggghs," I take it that it's best for me to take a break from DU for a few weeks...but then I say that, and the next time I log in, there's a very interesting topic being discussed during my self-imposed exile, and I feel like I need to log back in and chime in.

I don't know if it's just a seasonal thing or what, but sometimes I have to have a break. Usually when I feel like this about my visits to DU, I feel that way about "real life," too, and I take it as a sign that I need a break from everything in my routine. Are you like that, too?

(Note to mods: I'm not complaining about DU at all. I love DU. I'm complaining about myself, I guess. Frankly, I don't see how the mods handle having to read the same arguments from the same people over and over again. )

1. I find myself always taking stock of my life at this time of year.
Trying to determine where my energies are best spent, that sort of thing.

I don't know how people have the stamina to continue to debate the same old, same old. I simply have neither the energy, nor the time.

How are you, Ms. Maddy? Did you have a nice Holiday?

:hi:

6. You know, I bet that's what it is.
I've been in the "taking stock" mode for about a month.

The Maddys are all doing fine. We are planning a trip out of town for my son's birthday...so that ought to help a little.

We had a wonderful Christmas and are planning a laid-back New Year's Eve--going to smoke ribs and chickens at the firehouse for the firefighters and their families.

How are you? BTW, did you ever get a thank-you note from Anna? Did you see the post with Anna's photo in it last week? If you didn't get your thank-you note, please PM me with your address so that I can forward it to Anna's grandmother.

18. Dear Maddy
That is a wonderful thing you are going to do for the fire fighters and their families. The smoked ribs and chickens sound delicious. A great way to ring in the New.

21. We are in a small town...
There will only be three policemen on duty, too, so they will come. Ever since the hurricane, we cook something every Saturday night at the firehouse. It's kind of become a tradition.

Thanks for the kind words. :hi:

3. I know what you mean, Maddy
Usually, though, my "breaks" come in the form of hanging out in the Lounge, which often induces belly laughs from some of the posts I read. And yes, often my GD "ugghs" are related to life "ugghs". I think taking a break is good, whether it be from DU altogether, or just hanging in the Lounge for awhile. :pals:

9. I think I just need a total break from the laptop.
I've been spending too much time and money on ebay, too! LOL.

14. I fear it's too late for me
My laptop is now an appendage of my hands!!! (Fortunately, though, I haven't gotten hooked on eBay!)

20. I have bought some really cool stuff this past month at Ebay...
I hardly had to visit "brick and mortar" stores, because almost all of my Christmas came from ebay.

I bought a breadmaker for my brother (because it also makes pizza dough!), a bunch of toys and clothes for MMjr., some Xmas ornaments for my mom, and a spotlight and a temperature gauge for my pop.

All in all, I bought about $500 worth of stuff for less than $200. I LOVE finding bargains on Ebay.

And I DO know what you mean about the laptop being an appendage of your hands. LOL!

4. Yeah, some people just have to hash out
the same things over and over again, until it's out of their systems. I personally enjoy watching it the first few times around, then I just turn my back and laugh to myself, knowing that they are the ones who are wasting their time. It's not worth getting upset over.

12. I know!
And, usually, people won't change their opinion on an issue just because this or that DUer is very emphatic on whatever topic.

I guess I'm like Midlo above. I don't have the time or patience to bang my head against the wall, trying to make folks see things as I do.

I just saw your Christmas Tree thread. What a cute tree you have! You know, someone ought to ride around Biloxiport and make photos of all the outdoor trees for a small book.

17. I don't drive around too much, Maddy.
It is too depressing.

They have opened up Highway 90 and I make it maybe a couple of miles down the highway before I have to turn north.

It's too dangerous to cry when driving. :(

26. it was good
Glad you & MMjr had a good one.

They have opened two (2) casinos with a 3rd to open Friday.

Out of towners come to gamble and sight see - gawk at the destruction.

At least they are putting money into our economy.

Let me know if you ever want a room, I can probably arrange one now.

 :loveya:
