Does anybody have a Blackberry?
I'm looking to get a more updated phone and I'm looking at the Cingular site which is what we have now. I asked my Dad about changing to Verizon but he said we have to keep the two year contract and I updated my phone this past year to a new contract so we can't change yet but he's going to look through the book and everything. So I was looking at the site and they have some good Blackberry's that aren't too expensive. I was wondering who here had a blackberry and if you liked them or not. Also, for those who have blackberry's if I still keep my other phone can I use the same number for both? Thanks in advanced. :)

1. I don't have one. I was tempted, especially now that they are
nowhere near as expensive as they were.

I was real close to getting one... it always seemed so exciting in the investment bank, back when they were new and cool. But I decided the thought of having my email with me all the time, and that teeny little keyboard, was too terrible to bear, so I got me a regular phone. And then also remembering that most people don't how to use email anyway, and it's bad enough reading their poorly formatted shit on a computer, let alone trying to read it on a small screen and scrolling an scrolling to finally get past all the forwarded headers and other bullshit...

And as far as I know, cell phone numbers can only be attached to one phone at a time. I don't think they have developed multiple phones with one phone number yet.

3. Thanks for replying
My family has a share plan and we all decided to put our phones together. It's just a lot cheaper that way and earlier I was looking on the Cingular site and they have some blackberry's that aren't too expensive. What all can you do on the blackberries?

4. When I was lookng at them
I found that unless I needed to do a lot of data entry on the move that I thought a smart phone (with windows or symbian OS) was a better choice for me.

At the time a broadband capable phone was a big deal and thats coming into its own now that companies are offering mobile wireless broadband. Verizon and one other company offer wireless broadband and even though its rather expensive ($60-80/mo) the people I know who have it, mainly over the road truck drivers who have money to burn and not much to do all day, love it.

That was one of the big reasons I was interested in an internet capable device in the first place

As for the blackberry specifically, I know a guy who works for United who calls his the Crackberry because its so addictive. Personally I never saw that appeal other than having your e-mail strapped to your hip. And, really, with a laptop and hotspots you can almost have that while travelling anyway now

From the gadget magazines I've read the Treo is supposed to be boss if that helps you any...

6. technically yes
but its kind of a pain due to the form factor and some web sites didn't always work when you logged in...the thing that intrigued me about it was being able to use it as a wireless modem

I was doing alot of travel and liked being able to check my e-mail on my cellular tellular and stuff. I send friends IMs on their phones from time to time too although I findd that cumbersome and invasive personally. I guess they're more tech savvy than I, or more willing to put up with those numeric keypad typing lol

7. LOL yeah
I'm getting the hang of "typing" on the pad. But I'm really quite surprised that the blackberries aren't quite as expensive. I saw one for $70.

8. back in 2000
I thought it was the coolest thing ever and bought a Palm for about $70 in a pawn shop. I cracked the screen on it in about 2 days and wrote off Palms for good...at that time they were overglorified organizers anyway

Later on I got addicted to a cellphone Jumble game that involved keypad typing and spent like $20 bucks for an add on keypad that plugged into my att phone (yes, attwireless still existed then and was actually still part of att!). the damn keypad actually slowed me down, so that was another 20 smackers down the tube :(

VIERR = RIVER as an example of the jumbles
