We said our final goodbyes to Storm Kitty (19 years old) in November. We lost his mother (age 18) two years ago in May.
We currently have FIVE dogs living in our house, three of whom are officially PERMANENT, and two of whom are long term fosters that I'm not sure I can give up.
My husband and I have been involved in rescue work, and fostered 88 puppies over a five year period. We were not willing to do kittens or cats out of respect for our aged feline household members.
I'm still in mourning for Storm -- I still look for him at odd moments, before remembering that he is no longer with us.
And taking five dogs to the vet every six months for shots, etc. is NOT CHEAP. ARGH!!!
My husband is a good man who will go along with whatever I decide, but he is definitely NOT HAPPY that our two foster dogs have ended up as "long term" (over a year for Fuzzball, and pushing three for Ladybug, who keeps bouncing back to us because of her "issues").
So, I am not sure yet, and since I already have a couple of hundred pounds of dogs running around, I am a tad concerned about bringing in kittens or a new cat. (The dogs were well trained as puppies by the clawed kittens on the importance of showing "respect" to the aged cats, but Tessa periodically brings me stupid suicidal squirrels, and they do have a "pack" mentality....)
Opinions? Do I count my blessings, and not test my husband's patience, and leave well enough alone? Or do I let the rescue folk know that we can help with some "kitten fostering?"
Best, Ida the Catless
P.S. I feel guilty for saying this, but I am also enjoying not having to clean out the litter box!
