One year during the Gay Pride parade in SF there was a group of people with various flags. I saw this HOT guy w/ the Quebec flag and I shouted ..... VIVE' le Quebec .... he waved at me and I added Vive' le Quebec Libre!!

The rest was make out city!

GOD I was such a slut!

On a different Canadian note .... my step-mom is from Alberta and gets pissed when I talk how cool I think Quebec is.

34. I'm sure you have sidewalks older than anything in Vancouver
We have 'heritage' building less than 100 years old.

See, we're all shiny and new looking

Efficient - we have more space than you, and our drivers are more laid back, but traffic sucks and the transit system needs a lot of work. (Which they are doing.)

Pretty - absolutely.

Blue and COLD water - but we have lots of beaches

There was some really scary shit going on in those hills.

Still is, with the Reagan Library and all. Some of them people protecting the sacred legacies of Saint Ronald got razors in their shoes.

A very nice preacher let me park it behind his church.

The university library had a section that was open 24 hours, and I had a locker in the university gym, so it wasn't all that bad.

everyone knew everyone, safe, lots of kids to play with, fun. It also seems rather gentrified in retrospect, at least compared to where I live now.

But, there is no Thai food, no museums, bagel shops or music nuts, so I can't really live there again, as nice as it is for people with kids....

107. I know you live in Manhattan from the beautiful pics you post.
I lived in Hermosa in 1974-5, on Beach Dr. between the Strand and Hermosa Ave in a small apartment over a garage.

I left to attend to my mother's death and returned to Hermosa between 1976 - 1978.

I shared a house, on 10 th and Loma with some other fellows and later moved into the house next door.

For many years at low tide I would run between the Hermosa and Manhattan Piers on the beach, and at high tide on the Strand. I often used to ride the bike path from Hermosa up to Santa Monica, and even took several trips up to Malibu on my bike.

Later, after I married, my wife and I lived for a time in North Redondo in the mid 80's and then moved to San Diego.

That was many lives ago. It was a wonderful place to live, especially when I was as young as you you always are, but unlike you, I have aged.

Fond memories aside, I confess that I love where I am now. No offense, but I like it here in New Jersey better.

http://www.roanoke.com/news/roanoke/wb/xp-18863

GATE CITY - Tough as it was to lose by two votes, Mark Jenkins was ready to accept defeat graciously in the May election for mayor of this mountain gap town that calls itself a city. Then Jenkins called to congratulate incumbent Mayor Charles Dougherty. His opponent commented that they both ran a clean campaign. "That made the hair stand up on the back of my neck," Jenkins said.

Jenkins went on to file a lawsuit that invalidated the election and exposed what he says is a long-standing practice in Scott County: Some candidates aggressively recruit absentee voters, encouraging them to lie about their reasons for not being able to vote on Election Day.

Although not named in the lawsuit, a key figure in the controversy is Willie Mae Kilgore - the voter registrar of Scott County and the mother of Jerry Kilgore, the former attorney general who is running for governor.

To Jenkins, the numbers alone seemed suspicious. About one of every five votes in the Gate City mayor's race was cast by absentee ballot. Dougherty claimed 87 percent of the absentee votes to win the election 357-355.

137. I lived there from about 1954 to 1956
I was about 5 years old when my Dad was transferred there for 2 years, with an additional year at Wiesbaden Air Force base after that. As kids, we used to play in the big open fields that were nearby. You could find foxholes and rusted out German helmets in that field. There was a little creek and lots of bushes growing next to it at the edge of the base housing in which we kids had cut passages and forts. We found two rusted German machine guns with tripods and ammo belts in the bushes and we used to play war games with them until our alarmed parents took them away. There was also the French Caserne nearby and we used to watch French infantry soldiers doing war maneuvers in that same large field before being sent to the Algerian War. And from the bedroom window of our apartment housing, I could see the German cemetery where Ronald Reagan later visited. My mother used to curse that cemetery where German soldiers were buried, because her family suffered during World War II. I had a lot of fun at Bitburg as a kid, but I also remember that there were maybe only about 40 or 50 days of sunshine in the year. The skies were usually overcast and the snow in the winter was almost as bad as Wisconsin, where my Dad was transferred after his three years in Germany.

In the interest of bandwidth, I'm just gonna give you the link www.greatsodusbay.com We live right off of the beach on the lake side.

It's a great little resort town and everybody clears out after Labor Day except for a few of us hardy fools who stick it out. In the summer the little strip downtown has live bands out one the decks and the place really rocks. The fishing is pretty good and my son has become quite the bass fishing expert, just ask him. This winter has barely qualified to be called winter. The ice boaters and ice fisherman have been crying in their beer. All of the waterfowl are confused, not knowing whether to fly further south, to hang around the bay, or to make that commitment to cross Lake Ontario and head back to Canada and points North.
