Has this ever happened to you?
You have an appointment or have to be at work at a certain time. You shower and wash your hair as you do every morning, towel off, and when you turn on your blow-drier, nothing happens.

You check the plug. You check the reset switch. Nothing.

What do you do?

1. Comb hair and add any styling products then
get in the car, turn on the heat (moderate) and turn the fan on high. Adjust vents to blow on hair. It works!

2. I just moved the appointment to monday.
I'm going to salon to buy a new blow drier.

But thanks for that tip--I'm sure I'll need it sometime in the future. :hi:

3. Go reset the tripped breaker....
Edited on Fri Feb-03-06 02:21 PM by Lochloosa
most people don't realize the amount of power it takes to run a hair dryer.

12.5 amps.

If you have anything else running on that circuit, say the coffee pot you will trip the breaker.

Convert Watts to AMPS:
AMPS = Watts / Voltage
I = P ÷ E
Example:
1500 WATTS = 1500w divided by 120v = 12.5 AMPS
(for 3 Phase divide by 1.73)

On Edit: you can always go to a gas station and use the one on the bathroom wall.

5. It's not the breaker...the blow dryer is plugged into a power strip.
And my curling iron, also on the power strip, is still working. And I took the blow dryer around to various plugs in the house, and it still won't work.

8. Yes it has. And since that time I've discovered two things:
1) Emergency/travel dryers are available at most drug stores cheaply and I now stock one in my home at all times.

2) Provided it's not freezing or below, - driving on the freeway with the windows rolled down (actually, I have a convertible) will dry one's hair in very short order. Styling is another issue.

11. I'm going to buy a back-up dryer.
It's kinda yucky weather here today, though--really humid in south Mississippi. The freeway trick won't work. :hi:

is to get a bunch of gel, Vitapointe or some other sort of styling goo and go for this kind of a look:

12. When I'm not in a rush, I let mine air-dry.
But today, I had an hour and a half to dry my hair, get dressed, and be at an appointment about 60 miles away.

I think it was impossible from the beginning. :(

15. My hair dries in under an hour
And I have a lot of hair.
As soon as I get out of the shower, I dry my head with a towel to get rid of the excessive moisture. I brush my hair several times as I am getting ready.
I live in Wisconsin, of course. With winter heating, it is fairly dry right now which helps. In the summer, I usually walk the dog before going anywhere, which usually helps it dry too.
If I got into the car with damp hair and had a 60 mile drive, I'd expect it to dry also. I suppose though if it is humid and rainy that you might not want to have the windows open and if it isn't that cold, you might not want to have the heat on.

I guess I could have just put some bedhead gel in it and made it look like it was supposed to look that way. :hi:

But this meeting was with a guy I had only met once before, and who's offering me much help on my dissertation, and I didn't want to stun him with my unkempt self. :(

19. Easy! Finish getting dressed, towel your hair as dry as possible...put
gobs of styling stuff in....

Get in your car...Open the windows...crank up the heat....lean forward with a brush, and start drying.

23. LOL. I made it through a month after Katrina, myself.
I didn't do my hair for a month. I washed it, towelled it, and then put it up in a ponytail holder. For a month I did that. But I didn't have anywhere to go--not to work or anywhere--where I had to look acceptible. Everyone looked like shit down here. :D

I just sent you a PM.

27. pretty often
there is some thermal cut-off thingy that does that, apparently it means it thinks a fire would start, later on in the day it's cooled off and the dryer works again so you can't just throw it away in disgust and be done w. it

i just put some mousse in my hair and slick it back so it looks acceptable damp and don't worry about it, better for yr hair than all that dry heat anyway
