Ladies, can we talk about bras?

As Kate Winslet has observed, without getting too descriptive, there is somewhat of a dog ear effect that can occur without the proper support. And again, not to be too descriptive, even underwire is sometimes not good enough. I'm pretty sure I'm buying the correct size, so who has good bras? I was just over at Victoria's Secret.com, and I am skeptical that theirs are any good.

1. I like Maidenform

I've found some really nice ones that are quite supportive and very comfortable. But, they are more practical than flashy.

Don't be so sure on the size. I thought I was one size and just tried on several different band/cup sizes and realized I was wrong (or my body had changed) on both counts.

5. You may be right, now that I'm thinking about it.

With one or two of my bras, the back rides up--but I just chalk that up to too much wear. But the others fit fine...I guess different brands fit differently and all that...but it wouldn't hurt to check it out, get measured again.

Maidenform, huh? I don't mind practical if it works. Thanks for the suggestion!

3. A friend of mine who's rather ample on top

swears by the bras Lane Bryant sells. They're the only thing she's found that keep her boobs in the correct zip code, which does wonders for her back.

12. 80% of women wear the wrong size. you have to look at how it fits at

your sternum, that flat boney bit between your boobs, should fit close to the body and smooth and not have a gap at the bottom edge.
and technically, you shouldn't be spilling out or bulging anywhere.
people cut for different shapes, amount of support, etc, underwires do not always hold you up- they determine separation more than lift. 4-way sretch cups won't give you lift, you need some ridgid fabric to keep you in up. try on a bunch (and try different hook settings) try a number smaller w/ bigger cups and the number bigger with smaller cups- all will be similar, but different. try em on somplace with good mirrors and jump around. if you see something that makes you really happy, buy 2 or 3. next season it might fit differently.
did you know you're supposed to put on a bra by leaning over and pouriong yourself into it? i've never needed to do that myself, lol.

I need a front hook, since my shoulders are fairly crippled up with bony spurs and arthritis...I can't reach around the back!

The bra that I am currently using is perfect! Underwire, and stretchy cups.....I am perfectly comfortable!

28. You need something with more shape

Like if you're only wearing a cotton bra without any sort of lining or padding. Although it isn't really padding per se, just a lining that will smooth things out.

I really like the VS Body bras. They have a demi that has a very light lining and it works great.

and still say no at 42. im a C, and only wear a sports bra when i run. Maybe if Id have found a decent one long ago, Id have worn em.But I hate em. just my two cents :) and just me!

30. Proper fit is the key. Are you a full cup?

To properly fit a good bra, you need to actually bend over while you have it on. Stuff anything that is under your arm-pits into the cup. This has nothing to do with being fat or thin...it's just how you fill out a cup.

Most women gain at least a 1/2 cup size by properly fitting "all of " themselves into the bra.
