Steve Martin Is Hosting SNL
Man, I'm getting old. I remember him hosting in the 70s.

3. this is awful
the show is in its weakest state ever, writing-wise.

the last time steve hosted was in the universally-panned 94-95 season. his episode was actually all right, though. but this one really, really sucks. why does snl get a pass from the critics these days, when, in the past, they were so quick to pounce on it when it wasn't nearly this bad?

23. And Martin is coming out with what looks to be...
...a hideous Clouseau remake. Perhaps the time is right.

7. i could do without the Muslim-bashing early in the show...
it would be interesting to see what passed for humor in the years leading up to Nazi Germany. A little bit of Jew-bashing in the name of good fun and free-speech?

9. Steve Martin was in one of my fave SNL skits
Him and Bill Murray, years ago.

Martin comes out dressed like a goober tourist (bermuda shrots, hawaiian shirt, black socks and loafers), and looks right at the camera, and says 'What the HELL is that?!' Repeats it several times, then Murray walks up as the New York bum guy, and starts looking too. They go through a skit where they repeat that they don't know what 'it' is, then start suggestive statements 'Hey you kids, don't put your lips on that!' 'Well anyway, get my picture with it' ' Oh, I know what that is! Well, what the hell is it?! Uh, what the hell is that thing anyway?'

God I loved that skit.

10. Prince RULES, show SUCKS. Horatio doing Aaron Neville pretty funny,
Aretha NOT. All the skits have been extraordinarily lame. The Palestinian bashing was embarassing and racist. Just waiting for the next Prince gig. This cast has some talented people. And some BAD writing.

12. TONIGHT, dear heart. "Prince Show" funny - best skit so far.
Guy who plays Prince is really good, and Maya as Beyonce. "Drew Barrymore" had her language cadences down pat.

13. I'm surprised, since the real Prince is the musical guest,
that he didn't make an appearance in the skit, 'The Prince Show'... I'm a huge Steve Martin fan, and Prince fan, so this show is great, IMHO.

14. bad writing is tina fey's fault
and since she's a media darling she's not getting canned-so that's why the show is at it's all-time worst

the cast is actually decent. some, like fred armison, have potentail to be as good as carvey, hartman, belushi or the rest

18. Agree 100%. Wasted talent right now, and Fey isn't going anwhere - UNLESS
she starts writing movies full-time (Mean Girls). That just might save this show.

I'd love to see these guys have some better material. Though they should be coming up with stuff that funny on their own. Is Tina killing good stuff, or is nobody writing anything worthwhile?

Inquiring minds want to know. And want to laugh again.

17. i liked aretha asking for a stool for her boobs....
and saying it was so low (waist high) she'd have to take her bra off to use it. LOL.

15. He was one of the Wild and Crazy Guys.
Asking to see big american breasts in the 70's was very funny. I think he's lost it. To much money and to many years in hibernation. All good comedy comes from watching your fellow human beings day to day. Probably he should go into drama. Much easier to fake.

16. I left the room for various errands
and didn't feel I was missing anything. I did like the "news update" part of it. I think Steve Martin was wasted in those skits. used to always be a lot of bizarre yucks with him. I guess it's a different era.

19. I thought the Hammas
Edited on Sun Feb-05-06 02:09 AM by Sgent
thing was funny... perhaps the only funy part of the program.

I agree that the show has talent -- but terrible writing. Fey is decent on the show as a comedian, but a terrible writer.

Edited to add:

The state of the union address skit was actually good as well.

Ever since Lorne insisted on everyone being sober, the show has sucked.
