Super bowl ads. The best and worst.
I think one of the best ones has to be the young Clydesdale's trying to pull the beer wagon.

1. That one was touching
I also thought the one with the girls "She hates her freckles" was nice.

The funniest ones were the Fed Ex Dinosaur one and the Fabio one.

3. Toyota ads way off the mark...
I thought that 2 ads that ran during the superbowl were just plain dumb

The first one was with the dad and his son riding in the car and the kid asked his dad why they bought a hybrid vehicle and the dad said because it is better for your future, and the kid then asked his dad (who had some sort of random accent) why did he learn english and the dad said that it's better for your future. This ad seems about 40 or 50 years too late...and is especially wierd coming from a Japanese car company. I think that it would have been more appropriate in Chinese or Spanish.

The other ad that I think was just plain wrong was the shot of the Toyota truck being tossed around by huge waves, banging on rocks, and then later being driven away. Hello...anybody remember Katrina?, anybody remember Rita?, anybody remember the huge Tsumani in Asia?

I walk away scratching my head...

The one where they revisit the Clydesdales playing football, and a shorn sheep ("streaker") dances on the "field", with the ranch hands commenting "I really did not need to see that!" I thought it was hilarious.

My other favorite was the one with Richard Dean Anderson riffing on MacGyver. I actually watched it twice (yay DVR!) :D

My favorites were both Budweiser ads: The little clydesdale "pulling" the beer wagon was the best. I also like the one were the stadium of fans had those flip cards that made it look like they poured beer into a glass.

Least favorite: That weird Burger King ad with the Rockette condiments and the women falling on each other to make a sandwich.

Edited on Mon Feb-06-06 01:24 PM by northzax
why does using cute baby animals translate into sales of an adult product? Their entire Superbowl ad campaign is basically "you become a man when you drink budweiser" it is totally directed at children and teenagers. And then they have the balls to put a small print disclaimer about underage drinking, and get credit for donating time to 'anti-teenage drinking' campaigns.

what do 'cute' and beer have to do with each other again? really? what's next, unicorns? carebears? every time people ooh and aah about the cute Bud ads, they encourage more marketing towards kids. But that's right, ponies are really popular in the key demographic of 21-35 year old males, the legal demographic that consumes the most Budweiser. Every 22 year old man I know of is just crazy about cute little animals, don't you think?

on edit: look, if we think it's ok that they are marketing to children, then fine, but let's not all pretend that isn't what's happening. the Tobacco companies lost their cartoons because they were obviously directed at children, why not the alcohol companies as well?

In the Clydesdale world to pull that beer wagon is like a human having a noble job -pick any job you want- It didn't just appeal to Female or children but also grown men who remember being young and wanting to grow up to one day maybe do their Dad's job. Have you never seen that Flintston commercial where the kid's are playing dress up. The young Clydesdale is that inter child dreaming of one day doing a grown up job.

as for the "I won't tell line". The guy saw the older clydesdales pushing the wagon. Are you as a parent going to help your child do something and then turn around saying "haha you can't do it without my help". It was just simply let the young clydesdale have his little moment in the son.

BESIDES we are just about the ONLY modern country which tells kids no no you can't drink and look at all the problems we have. In Europe "children" are served in bars and from all the studies I've seen They handle the drink better than our gang here in the states.

37. about the Young Clydsdale ad...
i was flipping channels this morning and heard a guy laughing that so many people thought that was a cute ad. He thought that was clearly the WORST ad because it had bad intention wrapped in innocence.

the young clydesdale represented our young children and we should let them drink (Budweiser) and be just like us big clydesdales...

and he thought the "i won't tell if you don't" line at the end was the worst part.

I liked it when I saw it, but the guy is probably right.

42. Man, some people will read anything into something
Talk about an agenda. Does this guy know anything about the history of the Clydesdales? I remember seeing them as a very young child at Grant's Farm in St. Louis. For decades, I guess over a century now, they've pulled the wagons and have been a symbol of Anheuser-Busch. While I don't like the Budweiser product myself, I've always loved the beauty of these massive creatures.

What I saw when I watched that commercial was a young clydesdale hoping to live up to the legend/tradition that has been established long before it was ever born.

People will always see what they want to see, but seriously - sometimes it's just a commercial.
