(I am a lounge lizard, so I figured I should post this here, too)
Former hostage-taker now President of "Axis of Evil" country Iran.
Bin Laden, orchestrator of the attack that caused 3,000 deaths on our own soil, is still free.
North Korea's Nuclear aspirations keep growing.
Hamas wins Palestinian elections.
Bush, using cherry-picked gets a resolution from Congress allowing him the power to go to war with Iraq "as a last resort". But, as was evident in Bush's "fuck Saddam, we're taking him out" comment to Rice and three senators discussing possible courses of action in Iraq, his mind was already made up.
Fuel prices hit all time high, including adjustment for inflation. Despite Bush's pre-selection promise to eliminate the federal 20 cent gas tax, a highway through the middle of nowhere seems a better idea. Oh, and this promise was made when gas was 1.60.
Brownie, doing a heckuva job, while the band plays on, and New Orleans goes hungry.
The architect of Abu Ghriab is promoted to Attorney General, only lower ranks get court martialed, while other soldiers end up paying the price with their lives. All because of a war started on false pretenses.
Warrantless wiretaps are ordered, sidestepping the FISA courts, and Congress, and trouncing on the constitution.
Hermann Goering once said: "Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."
Human beings in general, want to believe they are on the side of right, the side of justice. Sometimes, we believe this despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. I think this President, and this administration has more than surpassed this overwhelming evidence.
I hope Democrats continue to speak out against what is going on in our country. I hope that Republicans will see that these Neo-Conservatives do not represent the party of Lincoln and Eisenhower. I hope, as Americans, we do not continue down this path we have started down, lest the world will look upon us in the same way as the looked upon Germans after WWII. We, as Americans, cannot allow this to happen.
