12. Penetration
Weld penetration is the distance that the fusion line extends below the surface of the material being welded. Welding current is of primary importance to penetration. As Figure 7-7 illustrates, weld penetration is directly related to welding current. An increase or decrease in the current will increase or decrease the weld penetration respectively.

This photo demonstrates the back view of a weld where constant weld penetration was achieved using the visual inspection system. To test it’s accuracy, the weld speed was changed 50 seconds after welding began. The system made the necessary adjustment to maintain the desired level of penetration.

17. petcock
"A petcock is a manually operated device inserted in the gas line that allows for an On, Off, and Reserve position for the gas supply. When the motorcycle starts to sputter, the rider turns the petcock to the Reserve position to gain access to additional gas while a gas station is sought. Some modern motorcycles have gas gauges and automatic gas shutoff systems making the manual petcock unnecessary."

48. dinghy... dongle.. .functor... futtock
dinghy
A small boat, like a rubber life raft.

ditty
A short, simple tune, like those used in ad campaigns, or words of a poem intended to be sung, or a short saying.

dongle
An early copy protection hardware device, required by some games in order to play. Nowadays, just about any stupid little accessory needed for a peripheral to function correctly, like a special connector.

functor
A not-so-dirty-sounding but funny word. A map between categories, taking objects to objects and morphisms to morphisms so that everything commutes in the way one would expect. This word is what got me through category theory.

futtock
A curved piece of wood that makes up the bottom of a ship.

hairy woodpecker
A woodpecker with a large, long beak.
