The RetroLounge Daily Poem Thread (Tue 2/7/06)
Why Did I Dream of You Last Night?

Why did I dream of you last night?
Now morning is pushing back hair with grey light
Memories strike home, like slaps in the face;
Raised on elbow, I stare at the pale fog
beyond the window.

So many things I had thought forgotten
Return to my mind with stranger pain:
- Like letters that arrive addressed to someone
Who left the house so many years ago.

Philip Larkin

1. A mind unleashed by the restraints of consciousness
can do traitorous things.

2. Dreams can
be cathartic but painful all the same revealing memories long thought forgotten.

Hope Abides
Hope abides; therefore I abide.
Countless frustrations have not cowed me.
I am still alive, vibrant with life.
The black cloud will disappear,
The morning sun will appear once again
In all its supernal glory.

- Sri Chinmoy

5. Mystery Picnic (Pt. 1 & 2)
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 09:16 PM by stlsaxman
MYSTERY PICNIC
Pt. 1

Scurry into the glade
A pittance of acceptance
Hail your new found bander-snatch glisten
Fork the steak/potato/cake heaven
As the wombat sneezed your prize.

Your flavor so pronouncedly subtle
like grapefruit or battery acid.
Your entrance like a forever blast
a pointed star stuck in your eye.

Flung against the wall like a broken toy
Stewing in the juices from my broken skin
Is it fun to watch me lay here dancing?
Is it fun to watch me lay here dancing?
Is it fun to watch me lay here dancing...
(by the way- feed my cat for me while I'm dead)

Pt. 2

In war and peace there is no truce
Only another decides the killing
"who do you live here with?
no not now but in the morning, if you will."
"get in there and get some clothes on-
we'll pack a Mystery Picnic!"
"mystery picnic?"
Gone are the times that I ever wandered.
Now I know better than that...

Will we remember, really?
O it's a lovely night
you have no idea.
There's a trembling in my finger tips
as I watch you sleep
and you throw your arms around me....

THERE ARE LEADERS PUSHING BUTTONS!
Adjacent to survival and resolve-
there may not be peace if we don't work at it.
No, there may not be peace IF WE DON'T WORK AT IT!

I smile envisioning you
y'know you carried me for far too many miles.
As the life seeped from my bones
I looked up at you and said "I'll be damned..."
You just smiled and shook your head
and looked down at me and said-
"No you won't".
