Dr. DemoTex and I both had dreaded appointments today. Re: Cancer.
We are both cancer-free (apparently)! Yipee! Her threatened hysterectomy is not necessary. My fist-sized mass above my right shoulder blade is an innocuous lipoma (it may have to be excised later, if it gets bigger). A CT scan revealed that my swollen lymph gland below my left jaw is either a sinus problem or a lower molar problem (both exist). That swelling has actually reduced.

My local-yokel GP in Brevard led me down the lymphoma path (and I was exposed to Agent Orange in Viet Nam!). I haven't slept for several days. My oncologist/internist in Greenville put my mind to rest today. He is a cool dude who always likes to talk about the book I carry, liberal politics, and the total unpredictability of the human body.

Dr. DemoTex got her good news almost simultaneous with mine. They were trying to convince her that she needed a hysterectomy, but she demanded a second opinion with more extensive testing. Ends up, she does not need a hysterectomy! DU women, beware of the female surgery mill! Always get a second opinion, if you can.

Thank goodness we are both cancer-free. Tomorrow is the first anniversary of sweet Sirius's first symptoms of his hemangio-sarcoma (coughing blood). Valentine's Day will be the first anniversary of that diagnosis.

I told Dr. D. (who is in Washington, DC, tonight), that I would have flipped out if one of us had been diagnosed with cancer on the anniversary of sweet Sirius's start of his brave six month fight. And don't accuse me of anthropomorphism, because Sirius held my hand all the way up and down that mountain and on the table (in my arms) at the end.

Oh, Death. Oh, Death. (as brother Ralph Stanley sang).

Mac

Sweet Sirius, about a week before he died on 8/25/05. Comfortable at his beloved mountain home. On this mountain, it is a legend as to how much I loved Sirius. That legend has passed to sweet Nick-Nick.

2. I'm glad you and Dr. D are okay
I read all of your posts about Sirius' illness and death, but I don't think I ever commented, because they left me at a loss for words. He was fortunate to be so loved.

11. Excellent news!!!
You both must be extremely relieved.

A bit over a year ago, I thought I might need rotator cuff surgery. I definitely planned to get a second opinion had the surgical option been suggested. Fortunately, it was the physical therapy route...I am not fine, but so much better as long as I move the arm correctly and sit in chairs with shoulder support.
