Jesus Christ, Sharon Stone must be REALLY Hard Up for Work.
She has agreed to star in "Basic Instinct 2". Not that that in and of itself should be a bad thing. The first one, while gratuitous and exploitative, was a stylish, sexy mystery thriller that let Stone show off her icy good looks to great advantage.

But even looking at the trailer and the R-Rated (and unbelievably tawdry and tacky) promo for the sequel, it's easy to see why Michael Douglas opted out of this one.

I have no problem with sex and nudity in movies, but if I was a star of Stone's caliber, being of a certain age, I'd want my scenes to be portrayed a little more tastefully...

Whatever. Check out the cheezy trailer and scuzzy promo - if you like.

3. Oh, boy...
I have nothing against some of her better performances, but...Stone as a person is horrifying. No, I don't just mean that in the usual celebrity sense either. I mean--Jesus. She's a trainwreck. The reason she's not doing more is that in a personal sense she's a complete mess (pathological lying, not-so-successful recovery from a stroke, a few relapses into cocaine/opiate abuse, other major health and behavioral issues). The only reason I think she's gotten as far in Hollywood as she has is as the result of excellent representation. I forget who was backing her for so long in the '90s/early '00s, but it must have been someone...generous because now that the publicity maze has unraveled...I can't even call her objectively sane. And please, no one post "oh, shut up, all movie stars are like that." AUGH. I've been reading celebrity gossip for many years and Stone is right up there with Robert Downey, Jr. in terms of messed-up-edness. At least Downey, Jr. is intelligent.

15. Okay, fair enough. Then again, we don't actually KNOW...
whether Sharon Stone, has, say...helped to suicide someone and then participated in the ten year cover-up of said "suicide" while being insane and abusing drugs...but I wouldn't put it past her. Egh. A sample of the things I've read about SS that took me from a place where I thought of her as a deserved member of the A-list to...someone I hope mysteriously disappears soon and never resurfaces include: lying outrageously about many things in public and various interviews, (including having "one of the highest I.Q.s in MENSA," having graduated from college, having survived cancer and having known and loved "many" people who died of AIDS--one of the more offensive lies she's told, IMO) adopting a child she obviously had no intention of caring for or raising, abusing various drugs (yes, I know, par for the course for numerous Americans, especially Hollywood folk, but she "allegedly" continues to abuse today and well, she is a parent--kinda) and--seriously? Google "Sharon Stone" and "stroke" sometime. Scary.

2. magazine cover here in Ireland
with her is really tacky - she's sort of splayed out with a towel or blanket draped over her - if her thighs were any further apart they couldn't get both of them on the page! Talk about a career reputation killer...

11. Funny that spreading her legs kinda kicked off her career...
...but at this stage in her career she should be able to say no, or at least have control over how she's shot.

But putting the smut in the freaking PROMO? Usually they don't give you all the smut shots in the freaking promo!

8. It was Michael Douglas's girlfriend played by Jean Tripplehorn
that was killed at the end of the first Basic Instinct.

12. I'm kinda with you.
I like Stone and I think she has (or had?) potential, but I think the other poster is right about her trainwreck of a life. Whenever she comes onto awards shows, etc. she barely seems more lucid than Anna Nicole Smith. Luckily for her she doesn't slur her speech, but she does seem to be not altogether there.

I saw Oprah interview her after the stroke, and she came across well, but she seemed to be trying SO HARD to show everyone that she was well and competent, etc., but it seemed like there was a lot of heartbreak just under the surface.

I wish her well. Hope she gets better projects than this in the future. Maybe they gave her a hefty paycheck for this one.

Nice Hollywood pic, by the way.

That could've been quite interesting.

I'll take your word on the trailer as I'm on dialup & there's many better things for me to download!

19. I say 'older' ladies _should_ do roles that focus on their bods. Man if I
looked half as good as Sharon I would be over the moon.

22. I never said she looked bad.
I think she looks phenomenal.

The fact that she is at this stage in her career and not in control of how she's being shot is what's sad. Have you seen the promo? It's totally cheesy soft-porn.

That looked like the porno parody of Basic Instinct, not a legit movie.

After all, we know everything about what roles are available and preferable to who in Hollywood.
