Seems all we do is bitch about the winners.

BTW, how is Green Day still getting awards - that album was from 2004!

1. I think "Boulevard" was released as a single early in '05, no?
I dunno, I could be wrong, but then, it's the Grammys. It's not exactly a source of relevance on any level except the further validation of the already-famous. I think the last genuinely interesting record to win one was "Odelay." And that was what, 10 years ago?

3. My question is, does ANYONE pay attention anymore?
Edited on Thu Feb-09-06 10:42 AM by Montauk6
There seemed to be a time when the Grammys REALLY mattered, can't recall when that was.

I mean, look at the Oscars, people drop everything to hear the nominations; billions worldwide still tune in to watch the broadcast.

What happened to the Grammys? Is it the fact that, as I suspect, the children have taken over, so to speak (poorly dressed children at that)?

Is it the fact that there are just too many music awards shows out there?

Or am I suffering from tunnelvision?

5. I was glad Les Paul won, but with reservations...
Les Paul's win meant that an acquaintance of mine who played bass on Steve Vai's track in the same category lost. But if you have to lose to anybody, it may as well be a legend like Les Paul.

Was I imagining that? Not singing or anything...best spoken word or something like that.

If so, good for him. :-)

22. I'm still figuring out Best Rock Performance vs. Best Hard Rock
because Plant got a nomination in each of those categories for two songs from the same exact album. And somehow one was classified as "Rock" and the other "Hard Rock".

But then again Jethro Tull once won for best heavy metal album so I suppose trying to figure that one out just makes the mind go crazy!

Hell Tull even got on stage and commented that they had no idea they were a heavy metal band.

With all the categories they have I demand they have one for the best prog rock music!

One for Best Spoken Word Recording I believe for his autobiography and another one for "Peter and The Wolf" -- I don't know what category he won for that one though. I know he narrated it -- might be Best Children's Recording or something.

12. Burt Bacharach was chatty backstage.
http://www.forbes.com/home/feeds/ap/2006/02/09/ap2512289.html

LOS ANGELES (AP) - He won for best instrumental album, but composer Burt Bacharach had plenty to say at the Grammys, particularly about the war in Iraq.

"I've never seen times like we've got right now," he said backstage, his young children by his side. "This is the future I'm leaving behind for these kids and I'm concerned because I think we've really made a mess of it."

Bacharach, who won for "At This Time," accused President Bush of leading the United States into war by "lying" that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

"I never like to be lied to by a girlfriend or agent, and certainly not the president of the United States," he said. "I'm very concerned, as we all should be. That's why the album is called 'At This Time.'"

While the media hum "Walk On By".

Even Bruuuuuuuuuce's "Bring Them Home" had some in the audience worrying the camera might catch them "in agreeance". (Fred Durst flashback).

21. Seriously
I don't really give a rat's ass who won. I'm not saying that to sound like a prick, it's just that those awards mean nothing to me as a listener. If I was up for one I might pay attention, but otherwise all those award shows are meaningless to me.

But I was doing work at my computer and it made good background noise (except when I switched to watch Lost) and there were some good performances.

Bruce saying "Bring them home" at the end of his performance justified it all!

27. I don't know if I'm "happy" about who won
BUT I enjoyed watching all the performances. I'm happy Sly is still alive even if walking is difficult, he deserve it.

I loved Paul McCarthy singing Helter Skelter. The ole rocking chair was moving to that one. I love Bruce and he can do no wrong. I even thought Coldplay was good. U2 was fun and Jay Z singing with Linkin Park was a great tune.

I think we have grumpy DU'ers who just can't sit back and enjoy the damn thing.

I acutally wasn't a Green Day fan until about 4-5 years ago but I adore their music. I guess it makes sense that they could be nominated for Boulevard since they released the single in 2005. Hell American Idiot is still pumping out singles so technically they could qualify again this year if they release another single
