12. I was going to do "Big Boss Man" tonight

(I did a short version, from the '68 TV Special, already, but not the 1967 studio cut), but it got too late. I've got a nice track for it, I think, complete with guitar similar to Jerry Reed's on Elvis' original. "Mystery Train" is a classic but it's pretty high -- 20-year-old Elvis at Sun -- though I do have a track for it (not sure how good it is...many of the tracks out for Elvis' '50s songs are particularly unconvincing) and I might give it a try next week. I don't have a track for "Stay Away, Joe" -- not yet, anyway. ;-)

20. Yeah, the Million Dollar Quartet...

Elvis, Jerry Lee, Carl Perkins (and his band -- it was their session that got crashed), and Johnny Cash, though Johnny hasn't shown up on any of the recordings out so far. Sun Studios in Memphis on December 4 (I think), 1956. Excellent stuff -- very revealing.

I bought it on an expensive vinyl 2-LP bootleg from my connections in Holland back in the late '80s ($52, way back then), just before RCA released it officially for a fraction of the price. :-( Oh well, I guess I got myself a collector's item, if nothing else. :-)
