Valentine's Day is a dumbass tradition that people should ignore
Honestly...for all you single people without a date...the fact that you don't have to tolerate anyone making a big deal out of a Hallmark Holiday is reason enough to get together with friends and watch a game or something.

Hell, go to Hooters.

3. I certainly don't take it seriously
but any excuse to give my sweetie a gift is a good one, in my opinion. :D

13. Well, cookie....the Catholic Church started the war on easter a long time
ago...when they decided to take a nice pagan holiday of spring fertility rites and add chocolate.

8. It did! It reminded me that that stupid assed day was right around the
corner---

So, I decided to go ahead and get annoyed about it now. No time like the present!

9. I don't know
I'm not much on manufactured holidays and of course we should let the people we love know we love them all the time but people get so busy in life, they end up taking each other for granted. Whether it's Valentine's Day or your anniversary or something else, it's important to remember those things and take stock of them. I don't really have a problem with Valentine's Day - for the most part, I think it's kind of silly and sweet.

Now Christmas, on the other hand.... :hide:

10. Holy cow....don't get me started on Christmas, and what a freaking
fiasco that has turned into.

I thought as I got into my forties, and Mom and Dad into their seventies...that we would all just quietly mellow---and Christmas would turn into Breakfast, Church, Fireplace...couple of presents....look at old photos/slides.....enjoy the old ornaments...talk about the grandparents...

But, hell no.

I got married, and BLAM...right back into "Spend a shitload of money on CRAP" day---

(it's not Michael's fault...he hates it worse than I do)

12. I refuse to do it anymore
Flatly refuse. I don't decorate, I don't celebrate and I don't buy a single gift. Not even for my grown kids (who don't mind, not that it would matter much if they did since it's not supposed to be about receiving - yeah, right).

I do send cards to my family because we're all spread out across the country so it's the one time of the year when I contact all of them. But that's it. Bah humbug!

15. I'm really thinking about opting out
I have no religious reason to celebrate and the waste involved really gets on my nerves. My father and sister'd have a shit fit, but they're grown ups and they'll adapt.

17. It's not dumb
if folks can use it to express themselves to those they care about (in all of the ways they may care). It's only dumb if it's inappropriately turned into some sort of contest, or one of life's little report cards.
