Fellow DUers who don't give a good goddamn about the Grammys, or the
Oscars, or the Emmys, or American Idol, or any of that crap, come on over to this thread.

We'll have a drink or three and ignore the useless pop-culture nonsense that doesn't mean a goddamn thing.

3. I couldn't care less...
those things are meaningless anyway, being more about popularity than artistic merit; I think the whole thing is sort of absurd. It's kind of like having a competition where Budweiser is named "best beer in the world" and the only other competitors are Coors, Miller, and Warsteiner.

I'm proud to say I've never watched one single episode of American Idol, that stars dance new one or even Surviver. In fact, MTV started that reality show shit and I'm still pissed at them. I can't sit throught the Oscars or the Emmy's (Yawn) without a urge to jump up and do anything else.

I'd rather watch an Attending MD on the U of W station discuss bowel surgery. With pictures.

And what's with all the awards, anyway? I swear, it used to be 3 awards, big shows, each year. Now, it seems like there's a dang awards show every other week.

Don't unleash me on the stupid categories either. "And the winner for best usage of cleavage in a pseudo hip hop R&B crossover, is..."

I just dont get the cult of celebrity worship in this country, nor do I like the fact that our culture seems to be defined by whats/who's on TV. But I am biased against the idiot box the most. Come March, I'll be 3 years TV free.

Its weird. I gave up smoking 4 years ago. Every once in awhile round about my 3 rd beer, I jones for a smoke. It passes
I gave up fast food about 3 years ago, once in awhile I get a whiff of the clown place and jones for some fries. It passes.

I never, ever have any inclination to watch anything on TV.

Now here's the weirder part: I can hang out with smokers or people noshing on junk food, no problem. But people who watch TV or talk about it, I can't seem to tolerate

Hope things are going ok for you. We still have to do lunch, one of these weeks. Work is a madhouse. I think I need to "schedule" a lunch! LOL. Oy.

I guess I don't much care if other people want to watch that stuff, though I find it obnoxious. It's when that's *all* they do or *all* they talk about, that they're probably not people I'm going to become friends with.

A drink or three sounds good, tonight.

to tell anyone what to do. I just get tired of listening to the endless discussion about it. For example, one of the big reasons I'm happy I don't work in an office with other people anymore, is the maddening weeks of yack-yack-yack every morning during the college basketball tournaments in the spring. AAAArgh! Every time I would go to get a cup of coffee (no, there's NO way I'd ever let my secretary fetch coffee for me), there it was, blather blather blather...

You know where to find me; give me a call when you can break away for lunch. Usually, any day except Thursday (that's my weekly lunch date with Mrs R.) is good.

How's that bathroom coming along? Still bathing with bucket and garden hose?

I just had the really evil thought, what kind of rumors I could start at my office if I had an 'older man' in a nice hat show up in his spiffy sports car to take me out to lunch

Actually, if anyone pays attention to that kind of thing around our office, I'm outta the loop. But that wouldn't surprise me.

I'll give you a call, maybe next week, about lunch!

32. It's true! You know I always wear black jacket and pants, and when it's
cold, I'll throw on a sweatshirt (black, natch) and my jacket over that, rather than wear a coat.

When that's combined with a white shirt, it does indeed look like a clerical collar. I get called "Rev" by strangers all the time when I go to the bar in the winter like that.

(And you KNOW that when that happens, I reply "Bless you, my son (or daughter)," don't you?)

then so be it. If standing up for artistic intgegrity and fighting for the right of legitimate artists to have their say and asking that artists not pander to the lowest common denominator of an already ridiculously and immorally ignorant American public is "elitist", then call me an elitist and I will wear the brand proudly, loudly, and brazenly.

That's what killed country music.

Toby Keith, for example, has a helluva voice (he could have been the current equivalent of B. W. Stephenson), but I can't listen to him, because his songs are all pandering crap.

Me: All music snobs dislike Pink Floyd.

You: Therefore all those who dislike Pink Floyd are music snobs.

Hard to argue with that. :D

Seriously though, while all "true" music snobs will dislike Floyd, just because someone dislikes Floyd doesn't make them a music snob.

47. I pay no attention to the award shows
I will admit to watching some American Idol. I like to see the different singers. There is actually a guy who made it through that can sing some mean soul. He probably won't make it through, but he is really good. I don't vote, but I will watch to hear the singers. They can't help it the show is a joke. But some of those people sing their hearts out and I can't resist a good soulful singer.

As for the award shows. :eyes:
