Time to lighten up...A FOOT OF SNOW IS COMING! WOO HOO!
Just had my snowboard tuned...I've already been out twelve times this season. Very, very odd, but despite the warm, spring-like weather in New England, and bare earth visible all the way up to the Canadian border, I've never had such a good season. Every single trip but one has seen incredible conditions, and I've ridden more powder this year than ever, often on near-private trails, as everyone is staying home because they think it's too warm. And now...I've got a couple of $25 lift tickets to Okemo for Sunday, and they're calling for a foot of snow, starting Saturday night!

Fuck Bush.

Fuck Abramoff.

Fuck Cheney.

Fuck the NSA.

Fuck it all...I'm gonna be knee-deep in fresh powder this weekend!

:bounce:

Twice to Jay Peak, near the Canadian border; great snow both times. Three days at Stowe and it snowed constantly. A couple trips to Mt. Snow, in fluffy white powder, and we did Stratton last weekend...it was near 40, and the snow was surprisingly soft and fun. The only bad day I had was an icy one at Okemo back in December, so this will be ther first trip back to Okemo this season -- and a foot of POWDER is coming!

On edit: I feel bad for the smaller local slopes. I never ride 'em anyway...too small. But the ground here has been as bare as a chihuaha's butt. They must be taking a beating this year.

8. Our first trip to Jay was because it was raining at Killington
A friend had a condo and we were supposed to stay...but we kept on driving north until we found snow. That was Jay Peak. It was a good choice. He said that Killington was the worst he'd ever skied, all ice and rain. Meanwhile, I rode at least three trips down Jay, in 6" of untracked snow, without seeing one single person the whole way down. The rain down south scared them all off. So I've still never been to Killington. We stopped one day just to check it out, as we had a free lift ticket, but decided the mountain was too huge to try to do in one day. We're going to wait until we can spend the night so we can try out the whole mountain.

3. It is going to be 70 degrees on the coast tomorrow.
If I leave early enough, I can play in the sand for a few hours before heading back to be home when the kids step off the bus.

I can't stand this crazy, unseasonably warm winter. I want snow!

So much for global warming.

14. Sharpen the edges, fill the dings, give it a coat of hot wax
The sharp metal edges make it grip on hard snow and ice (like sharpening an ice skate); the wax makes it slippery and FAST.

17. That's for surfboards
I don't surf anymore...CT is kinda landlocked. I don't wax the board myself, I take it to the shop. I really don't know if Sex Wax makes a winter wax, or if they only do surf wax. I do miss that coconut smell, but not the nipple burn!

19. Have the shop wax the BOARD, not the nipples!
There. That should solve the problem. No charge. Happy to be of service.

(Don't mind me. Just feeling a little weird tonight. :-) )

21. Land locked my ass...
Stratford was my home and Connecticut has over a hundred miles of shorefront...I learned to sail as a kid and worked the fishery (oystering) for 3 years...if you don't live on the coast you are de facto land locked..but Connecticut has a large and respectable maritime heritage...

22. You're absolutely correct. My bad.
I live near Hartford...while I could paddle down the Connecticut River to the shore, it's so far from the coast here compared to my Florida beach upbringing, I often forget CT has a coastline at all!

That said, Pt. Judith, RI has some one of the best point breaks on the east coast. But the water up here is too cold to go out without rubber, and I absolutely HATE wearing a wet suit.

25. Doesn't seem as bad now
The reports I heard have the storm heading too far south to drop as much snow as they thought would fall. I still think we will get about three inches though
