Cops Find Naked Family In Car
<snip>

NORWOOD -- Police this weekend discovered a Long Island grandmother, mother, and toddler naked in broad daylight near the Lenox Street Bridge.

The state Department of Social Services has taken custody of the child while psychiatrists evaluate the mental state of her mother and grandmother after police found the three sitting naked in a parked car Saturday morning.

"There was an obvious mental illness issue involved," Norwood Police Lt. Brian Murphy said yesterday.

Norwood Police were called to the Lenox Street Bridge just before 9 a.m., Saturday, after passersby reported seeing two women and a young child standing unclad outside their car.

When police arrived the grandmother, 51, mother, 32, and 2-year-old girl were sitting naked inside the car, which was parked near Norwood Auto Inc. on Nahatan Street and Concannon’s Village function facility on Lenox Street.

The three were taken by ambulance to Caritas Norwood Hospital, where the grandmother and mother were given a psychiatric evaluation. Drugs or alcohol did not appear to be factors in the incident, said Murphy.

At around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, DSS officials arrived at Caritas Norwood Hospital and took the unharmed child into their custody, DSS spokesman Denise Monteiro said yesterday.

Monteiro said DSS investigators are working to discover the "mysterious" circumstances surrounding the incident. Murphy and Monteiro said it does not appear the family has any ties to the town.

2. Cripes.
That's just weird.

Poor kid. Sitting naked in your car with your grandma?

Could take years of therapy to get over that one.

6. I don't know -- toddlers really don't have a concept of nudity.
Plenty of parents take their toddlers into showers, locker rooms and restrooms with them, to no ill effect. (Heck, anyone who's ever been in charge of a toddler in a public place has used the toilet with the kid right in the stall.)

My SO's 3-year-old finds nudity hilarious.

"Stacie, where were you?" "I was in the shower!" "Were you naked?" "Yes, I was." "Hee hee hee. You were naked. Papa, Stacie was naked!"

If all there was was nudity (and it wasn't a symptom of further abuse/neglect), I doubt the toddler would be scarred for life (or at all) as a result. Not to say that it was the right thing to do, but still.

10. I know. I was going for the "seeing your grandma's hoo-hoos".....
....vein of visual comedy.

I guess the joke kinda loses somethin' when I have to explain my rationale.

*sigh*

Ummm.... do I get a pity laugh for saying 'grandma's hoo-hoos"?

:)

11. My sister's 3 year old likes to strip naked and run around
I think it's a pretty normal 3 year old thing to do. They don't care if they are naked, they're not ashamed of their bodies, and for the most part, no one has messed with them and caused them to be.
