Edited on Mon Feb-13-06 02:40 PM by Rabrrrrrr
I bought the new five blade razor by Gillette.

And you know what? One of the smoothest shaves I've had! I think this one is a winner.

Though I need to try it for a week, and I'm gonna go a day without shaving (I tried to go without shaving today, but I was too much anxious to try the new toy) and see it how it does with a 2-day beard.

But for today, lordy, that thing shaved nice!

3. Just curious
How much are the blades? I need a new razor but not if 5 - 7 blades is going to cost me $12 or more.
I'm still using the Atra.

9. The blades, I quickly noticed, are definitely more than the Mach-3
The razor was on sale for $8 at this point, and I thought that was worth the try. But unless the shave really does turn out to be extraordinarily better than the mach-3, I will go back to the relatively cheaper (though still expensive) mach-3.

16. $8 would not be bad
Edited on Mon Feb-13-06 02:58 PM by DaveTheWave
The wife has been using the Mach-3 on her legs for a long time and I knew the blades were a little high. Me, I keep being cheap buying the generic Atra blades but either my face and my whiskers are changing or the quality of the blades keeps going down. After about three shaves I start getting a lot of drag and cuts. One blade used to last me a little over a week.
Thanks for the info.

4. I'm still using the old Mach 3.
Still works great! especially after a brief encounter with the 5 for $1.49 kind. :scared:

5. Really? My friend was just whining about how lame he thought this was.
He and my boyfriend had a little rant session about marketing when we saw the commercial the other day.

Maybe I'll get one for the boy to try out.

14. I've used an electric razor for years
and would never switch back to scraping my face with a sharp peice of metal.

I thought the electric would not give me as close a shave, but after a couple of weeks, your face and your beard get used to it, and it shaves me as close as any blade had.

On second thought, I assumed that you were talking about shaving your face.

21. Yep , the mach-3 and the new one have battery operated vibrating versions
I was tempted to buy the battery powered version, but wasn't sure if it really made a closer shave.

DS1 - how do you like it compared to the non-battery-powered one?

23. It's great
it was definitely a noticable step up from the regular types, you don't have to push at all *which is the point of the new one too, so together they must be like gliding over your skin *

I was eyeing the new 5 one mostly because of the single razor on the back which I could use to cut even lines into my beard with

made by a company called 'bump guard'. They are very hard to find... I never tried to find them online, but you can buy them in any inner city. This blade was designed to fight ingrown hairs.

28. I'm sorry, but anytime I see that ad for the vibrating five blade razor
I immediately associated it with Weasels Ripped My Flesh

Therefore, I will stick with my humble, dual blade Atra, that gets my face as smooth as baby's butt, even after twenty five years.

33. I've been using that for the past couple of weeks
The shave is amazing. I have a pretty tough beard, and the Fusion is far and away the most comfortable and the closest shave I've ever had.

I thought five blades was a little ridiculous at first, but I'm sold.

36. i refuse to buy into it
i ended up using the 2 bladed razors, but i only shave once a week. i think they have intentionally downgraded the quality of the 1,2,3 blade razors as they introduce the newer ones. everyone i know has said that they notice their old brand of razor isn't as good as it used to be.

39. If I'm in "shaving every day" mode, I
just use the one-blade Bics. If I've got a couple days of growth, though, I don't dare.

I'm in a situation where I've got to economize, even on shaving. Sad. :(
