Admit it. You like to see figure skaters bust their asses.
Am I alone in this?

Indeed, that's the sole reason I watch pairs. Toss! Oops!

1. I like that stuff as much as the next guy, but,,,
As the father of a skater, I can't imagine her heartbreak if she made it that far and fell. She'd cry for weeks, and I probably would too. I'd cry for her, and I'd cry for all that fucking money it took to get there. Let me tell ya, that sport ain't CHEAP!

10. Hey, laugh all you want...
For all we know, they could be a couple of pricks. :D Bush voters can spend a fortune getting there, and fall on their asses and have their hearts broken all day. Won't bother me :D

3. I watch the pairs when the pairs are on.....
They never dance to the music....

It's all silly...

Why don;t they just go out there... Do their tricks and forget all the but in the air, flyin' around the ice stuff...

That's so cromagnum... I mean, primative as can be....

30. I've always wondered about this also
They never dance to the music....

When have they EVER skated to the music that they choose? It seems like they are never syncronized with it.

Well, I guess if you want to check out asses in the Winter Olympics, the figure skaters have the only ones slightly exposed to check out. :hi:

You cad!

9. Of course I don't want to see a bloodied chin...
just a sore tushy! :D

On the other hand, I was so sad when Grandma Luge busted her wrist. She said she's over $100,000 in debt, just to be at THIS Olympics. She is to be admired.

:hi:

14. I remember seeing Tanya Harding crying about her laces to...
the judges--and ever since, I've seen SOME (not all) of the olympic figure skaters in a not so positive light.

I love speed skating, though. :D I'd love to have seen that good-lookin' Gold Medalist Texan bust his suit open. :bounce:

8. I saw a pretty wild luge accident today.
It was in the women's luge competition. An American (I can't remember her name), flew headfirst into a bank and was dragged by her sled for a good few hundred feet. Apart from a concussion and a cut on the chin, though, she was OK. It was quite a sight.

12. No, I usually cringe and groan.
That's the thing about figure skating. I want everybody to at least land safely. Also, I hate the thought that years of effort can be thwarted in one misplaced foot or miscalculation in timing.

13. I used to skate a lot growing up in Michigan
and I remember how damned hard that ice is. Worse than cement. I don't care to see the falls. But I do get a kick out of the hot shot pretty boy downhillers when they can't make the grade because they spend too much time partying and posing for the cameras. :)

18. Wanna make Figure Skating a Real Sport?
Put a cople of nets on each end, give'em sticks and have em go to town.

The fights would at least be amusing.

21. That is what makes it more exciting than watching ballroom dancing.
There is speed, form, beauty, and athleticism. And risk. Makes it exciting. Though I'd rather they not miss. Just that they throw each other around enough to make it exciting.

Pairs dance is good too - because more choreography. Where it is not about falling but all about timing. Exciting too!

24. Yes, that's exactly the point.
Ok, and I'll confess that my son and I watch NASCAR on occasion. Not to watch cars go around in a circle, but because of the RISK that there may be a crash (and hopefully no one gets hurt).

It's the risk. I think that's why we enjoy watching any sport. :hi:

29. Except people really do get injured and die in races. Whereas -
when skaters miss - they might fall flat on their asses but more often then just don't finish a jump. Never is it deadly. I used to watch horse jumping till I realized it was so dangerous. And that ended it for me.

27. Okay, this does it for me.
*SPOILER ALERT*

Don't read any further if you don't want to know what happened with the pairs free skate tonight.

I got terribly choked up when the final Chinese couple (I think the pairing is Zhang-Zhang) had a disaster in their quad throw. The woman took a terrible landing on the ice, and I was surprised she even got up. But not only did she get up, but she and her partner resumed their program and completed it to a standing ovation. And they won the silver medal.
