J Dilla aka Jay Dee has died at home in Los Angeles, he was suffering from lupus.
His label Stones Throw Records told 1Xtra, "He passed this morning Friday February 10th at his home in Los Angeles. He turned 32 last Tuesday, February 7th. He was with his mother at the time."

Born James Yancy, this Detroit-native was a founding member of Slum Village. As a producer he was known as Jay Dee and had been part of A Tribe Called Quest's production team, the Ummah. He went on to use his breakbeat-heavy style on tracks for Busta Rhymes, De La Soul and Pharcyde.
Jay Dee influenced Kanye West and Pharrell Williams named him as one of his favourite producers. As J Dilla, he joined Stones Throw records in 2003, forming Jaylib with the producer/MC Madlib.
