I'm new here, so I HOPE this is the appropriate forum for this question, sorry if it isn't! Here goes.
My wife had a great job interview a few weeks ago. The HR lady kept in great contact with her, which is a good sign. A couple of weeks ago, the HR lady told my wife there'd be a second round of interviews. But nothing ever came of that. Then last Monday, the HR lady wrote my wife and asked her for references, whom were called upon. According to her references, the conversation went very well and HR was impressed enough to say, "She sounds like somebody we should hire." Sounds good, right? Well the problem is, we haven't heard from the company since last Monday.
Now in the past, my experience has always been such that if a company asks you for references, you can be pretty darn sure you've got the job. I figure why would they go that far and take all that time if they weren't going to hire you. But why then is this company taking so darn long to get back to her? Are there any situations whereby companies contact references, not intending to hire you?
Personally I've gotten very discouraged in the modern job search. Half the time you don't know what the hell the company is thinking or why they haven't contacted you, or IF they will contact you - or IF you even stand a chance! It didn't used to be this way. What gives?
