5. The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition is a joke.
It's a soft porn issue, plain and simple. Why bother wearing any clothes at all?

I'd guess that the amount of women buying that issue is very, very low.

:grr:

6. And your point is?
Of course it is what you call it. The amount of women buying SI is already very low.

However spring training games are weeks away and we have to do something.

22. because it's fabulous and fun.
i know people who work in that kind of business -- it's very, very hard work.
and on the whole -- it's not the salacious stuff we hear about.

just folk doing their jobs and getting a paycheck.

25. I can respect that.
I've been on a few photo shoots and I can agree that it's very difficult/tiring work. So I can't fault the models, really. And the mag is going to make money, sure.

But the fact that they go through all this trouble so men can leer at these women's body parts....that just irks me.

8. And? That's the intent of the issue. It's not a shopping guide for women
Edited on Wed Feb-15-06 08:48 AM by ET Awful
in the market for a new swimsuit. It's not a catalog for women to browse for next year's best styles.

It's designed simply to titillate men, it has been for ages.

Not many men buy People's "Sexiest Men" issue either, where's the outrage about that?

10. Si Swimsuit issue is just like Maxxim:
Softcore for guys without the guts to buy REAL porn. If you wanna see all the "naughty bits," than just do it; don't half-(exposed)-ass it!

11. What's pornographic about nude or nearly nude bodies?
Nudity doesn't equal pornography.

16. You're right, but the purpose of the issue is to titillate.
I certainly, certainly see a difference between nudity and pornography, but I see that issue as a self-love gift to straight men, period. I'm sure someone, the models, maybe, think "I'm taking a fun picture about fun" or whatever.... but that's not why SI spends the money on it. They know straight men will buy it to leer at the women, and it's a cash cow for them. No one ever went broke getting straight men to look at boobies and butts.

People are homeless, going hungry, dying for need of medical care, and selfish f*ckwits are designing and buying $30 million bikinis. Sickening.

28. And exactly *what* is the point of this?
Creating a "bikini" supposedly worth $30 million is far, far more obscene than what it's pretending to cover.

...wealth confiscated, and redistributed to the poor.
