11. I thought she looked great figure wise in Bridget Jones...that's one
of my favorite movies...But I always was glad she was so successful because (to me) it proved even the "funny looking" girls can succeed in life. I don't think she's ugly...just not classically attractive.

Even if there were, they are makeupped/re-styled within an inch of their lives to LOOK classically attractive.

Even your Kathy Bates, etc. clean up for awards shows. I mean, didn't Peter Jackson show up in flip flops?

But if the point is that there are more less than classically attractive male actors than female ones, I agree wholeheartedly.

Take a look at this site with a pretty comprehensive listing of character actors... astoundingly more men than women are able to have careers with less than classic good looks... http://www.what-a-character.com/

Men in the show biz industry tend to make it on talent, while women need both talent and looks (in most cases) to be successful.

51. And that issue is one that really gets my goat.
Because due to this unwillingness to cast -- let's be frank -- unattractive women -- girls while growing up receive this message that they are "less than".

This message boils down to: for males, being ugly (or overweight, even) is acceptable... for women, it is not.

I wouldn't consider any of these women "classically attractive" but I think they're more beautiful in a deeper, more intelligent way than what passes for "classically attractive" these days.

Alfre Woodard

Kathy Bates

Sandra Oh

52. cameron diaz and gwyneth paltrow for starters
those are two funny-looking chicks, the story w. "something abt mary" is that it came out at a bad time technology wise, w. the rise of the widescreen high def teevees shortly thereafter it became obvious that diaz didn't have enough make-up on to cover the pits in her face

but even if her skin was perfect, as far as i know paltrow's is, both women have lopsided faces

in the previous generation, meryl streep had a lopsided face as well

unless you assume that all anorexic or skinny women are automatically beautiful, which i find a dubious assumption, that's three 3 well paid females right off the top of my head who are downright unattractive by the cold light of physical beauty only
