For Whoa_Nelly and others that love Tucson:
And another one bites the dustheap of history, joining:
● The neon oxen atop the old Steinfeld's department store.
● El Conquistador Hotel.
● Ted DeGrazia's studio on North Campbell Avenue.
● Much of the barrio.
Gone, all gone. They didn't fit in, either.
And neither, apparently, does the Hidden Valley Inn,
whose walls have echoed their last cowboy yodel.
Tagged by its owner as something of an "eyesore" that no longer
"fit into the emerging neighborhood," the inn will be
remodeled to become the new corporate
headquarters of a local social-service agency.
Who knew there was such need in the Foothills?
What isn't needed, it would seem, is a rinky-dink conglomeration
of Western architecture seldom seen west of Tombstone or east of Old Tucson.

1. Awwww.thanks ptah!
Back in 1962, I actually stayed at the old El Conquistador...and it was old then!

DeGrazia's studio GONE?!?!?! **gasp**

I remember when the DeGrazia gallery up on N. Swan was waaaay out in the stix. Now, you have to know where it is to be able to find the drive to go in.

Used to go riding at the Pantano Stables...in the washes, the desert.

Back in the '60s, and some of the early '70s, used to be able to walk so much of the town from eastside to Alvernon down Broadway or Speedway. Wouldn't even dream of doing that now.

Tucson has grown so much!

BTW...may be coming through there again in late April as am planning another road trip to Oklahoma City. Don't know if I'll be through Tucson on the way there or on the way back, or both. Will keep you updated  :hi:

Do you ever do moving as in moving van? Am thinking (again) of moving back to OK in a few months.

5. Question...when you said DeGrazia's studio on N. Campbell
Did you mean N. Swan?

Just wondering...

If that's the case, that means that cool little adobe chapel is a goner, too
