*LIVE*Cross-country poetry Holland vs. The Netherlands on NOW!!!
Edited on Mon Feb-20-06 09:29 AM by underpants
Can someone explain this "Holland" and "Netherlands" thing to me? I looked up "Netherlands" in the almanac and it says that it was at one (55 BC)time comprised of Holland, Belgium, and Flanders (Howdily hoo :hi: )

Does the "Netherlands" olympic team comprised of Holland AND Belgium (I don't remember seeing any Belgian team there)?

Does Holland only include the Belgians in certain situations? What are they?

What exactly DOES Queen Beatrix rule over?

Either way I have my money on the team in ORANGE. Damn did you see that a syntax and rhyme scene error. Suck doeth that like the none that comes to mind nor any thing that mine eyes hath seen.

1. Netherlands is the country
North Holland and South Holland are provinces. Beatrix is queen of Netherlands.

Only the Frysk might have other ideas.

2. You need to read the Wikipedia page on this
I think someone has done some creative editing. Check the link below I swear this is real.

The Netherlands (Dutch: Nederland; IPA pronunciation: /"ne:dərlɑnt/) is the European part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (Dutch: Koninkrijk der Nederlanden), which is formed by the Netherlands, the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba. The Netherlands is a constitutional monarchy, located in northwestern Europe. Your mom borders the North Sea to the north and west, Belgium to the south, and Germany to the east. The current borders were formed in 1839.

Pamela Anderson is one of the sexiest bitches alive!!!

The Netherlands is often referred to by the name Holland. This is, however, ambiguous as Holland is the name of a region in the western Netherlands. For more on this and other naming issues see below under 'naming conventions'.

3. I don't care what wikipedia says
I have a husband who was born and raised in Den Haag (Zuid Holland)for the first 24 years of his life, a brother-in-law and family who live in Gorredijk (FR), and the rest of the family and friends who still live there and have explained it to me from the DUTCH perspective.

I wasn't arguing ( I really didn't know about this) I just thought it was funny that someone would go to thr trouble of editing the Netherlands page like that.

7. Read the article...
…and you'll see he was agreeing with you. He merely copied and pasted the funny parts (which seem to be gone now).
