Need some help from you guys on Civil Unions/same-sex marriages...
I'm doing a persuasive piece on Civil Unions and/or Same-sex Marriage (I'm Pro) and I need some solid
research data. I've got quite a bit already, but I know the smart people on DU can definitely provide
more ammunition. If you have any links (i.e. History of civil unions/same-sex marriage), please send
them to me. Thanks much. ALS

3. Hey good lookin'
Same sex marriages existed in ancient Rome, feudal Japan, and ancient China.

I had a debate with someone over this topic...I also discussed how marriage has evolved throughout time...for eg in Ptolemic Egypt, siblings often married; arranged marriages; how it evolved from an economic transaction to one based on love and equality...or some previous customs that we frown upon now, such as the funeral pyre, etc.

You might find reading up on berdaches helpful, too.

I hope this is of some use to you.

Good luck!!

5. Ok here is a few:
Biological Exuberance - which looks at homosexual pair bonding in over 400 species.

John Boswell wrote a book a few years ago about homosexual marriage in the Middle Ages and how the Catholic Church supported it. There is some question of how accurate his history is but it's quite enlightening. Sorry, no title - I loaned it out a while back and never got it back.

James Weinrich's "Sexual Landscapes" addresses the evolutionary need for homosexuality and looks at homosexuality and marriage in a variety of cultures.

Good luck :)

Khash.
