1. Homebrewed root beer.
I make a damned good "hard" alternative to root beer.

5. I've made and bottled barrels of root beer for the kids...
I never did brew any off though. I'm sure it has an interesting flavor. I really should order some yeast and try it. ;-)

32. What's your recipe?
I've tried making it from some of the extracts and neve been happy with it. I made some this weekend with a different yeast and hoping for better results.

37. I made it using the recipe on the extract, but...
I used wine yeast. It's always more pleasant tasting than with bread yeast. Bread yeast can even give you stomach distress if used for wine.

2. A&W
Out of the can is OK. Fresh out of the tap at an A&W restaurant is the best.

I first heard about this site over the weekend, and I love it. But like every other message board on the planet, I have to get my post count up so I can be fully accepted. Thanks for the welcome. :toast:

9. I really love IBC
but it can be expensive. A&W doesn't appear very often, but of course it's great. The RBs by Pepsi and Coke are really the only ones I see a lot.

12. Not Root Beer but
does anyone remeber cream soda?? We used to have it all the time when we were kids. I actually found one a few months back and it brought back such memories of sitting on my Grandmother's porch (we called her BaBa) drinking cream soda on a hot summer night.

14. Cream soda -- yes.
IBC also makes a decent cream soda. The local bottlers near where I lived as a kid made cream soda without caramel coloring. It was clear. How about the stuff you remember from your grandmother's porch - was it clear or brown colored?

I also think is was a local bottler in my area as well.
I think that was the name I just bought IBC. I am not much of a soda drinker but I had to try it!!

23. Hank's Root Beer
http://www.hanks-rootbeer.com/

Now if it was 25 years ago or so, and A&W still had their old fashioned root beer that wasn't pre-packaged, and you could go get a gallon jug of the stuff for .99 (but drink it fast because it'll go completely flat in a few hours), I'd go with A&W.

That was THE place for root beer when I was a little kid. As soon as they went to pre-packaged stuff it lost it's appeal.

26. Barq's on the beach on the Mississippi Gulf Coast
It tastes different in Mississippi. I hear it's the water. It was first brewed in Biloxi, so it was formulated using local water. Maybe that's the difference, maybe it's all in my heart, but everyone I've met from the Coast agrees it's better there.

Don't even mention the cans. Just don't.

to order a rootbeer and a "butterburger" when I was a kid. Don't know exactly what was special about them, but it probably explains why I have a "butter-belly" today.
