I began a part-time job last month. It was supposed to be working a couple of afternoons a week. I'm working for my dermatologist who can be a bit 'edgy' at times. I took the job to help her out and help her establish a part-time practice after she was 'fired' from her previous place of employment. I love the work. I love the patients. The money is so-so, but it is nice to have extra income. I'm finding that now she is becoming more manipulative and wants me to do a 'full-time' job on a 'half-time' pay basis. She's never happy with the scheduling - either too much or too little. She wants to overbook her schedule in case there are 'no shows'. Sometimes I begin working at 11:30 on Fridays and do not get home until 7:30 - 8:00PM without any break at all. I'm beginning to work more half-days now as she is adding another afternoon of seeing patients to her schedule. I also do medical billing at home for another physician. My husband is elderly and has been having medical treatments for the past 8 years for cancer. I'm beginning to feel like my life is out of control.
First, definitely confront her with your issues but be sure to do it when your calm, preferably early in the day. I don' know if you have another job but if not then perhaps suggest going full time.
She sounds like she doesn't have a good handle on how to run her own practice and is placing too much of the burden on you. She may not realize that what she expects from you is unreasonable. IMHO, you either need to work out limits with her or give notice.
